Today is the 12th of November. It's the day after Veterans Day. After all the hoopla and recognition, reality returns to smack you up side your head. What were we doing it for? Why did I spend 20 years of my young life in a uniform? Why are young kids volunteering to run head first into the meat grinder of the current wars? What's the point? Why?
We are told we did it, and are doing it, to preserve freedom — to protect our way of life. I don't know if I buy it any more. Our freedoms are slipping away and our way of life is headed straight to serfdom.
DENAIR, Calif. -- A Stanislaus County school is forcing a student to take an American flag off of his bike.
Thirteen-year-old Cody Alicea put the flag there as a show of support for the veterans in his family.
But officials at Denair Middle School told him he couldn't fly it. He said he was told some students had complained.
Because someone complained? Tell me again why I and all the others served. Tell me again about preserving freedom, because somehow, I think I misunderstood. Tell me why, in the United States of America, a kid can't fly an American flag on his bike at a public school, paid for in part, by a lot of veterans.
Better yet, don't tell me. I was never in combat. Go tell Marine Corporal Aaron Mankin. Go tell Marine Cpl. Todd A. Nicely. Tell those two men why they fought if a kid can't fly a flag on his bike. Go to the nearest National Cemetery and tell all those buried there why. Go to the beaches of Normandy. Go to Flanders Field. Go to any place an American GI was killed and shout out to him or her why they had to die and what they were preserving.
It's too bad School Superintendent Edward Parraz can't be made to look at Corporals Mankin and Nicely in their eyes and tell them why a kid in his school district can't have a flag on his bike.
This is the fruits of liberalism and the result of people like Parraz who have some stupid vision of a multiculturalism.
If this flag offends you, then leave my country. Go to whatever place in this world that makes you proud. Return to what ever craphole country you crawled out of and salute whatever rag they fly. I don't want you here.
If that flag offends you, then get the hell out of here and don't ever come back.
If you, as an American, are not pissed off, you aren't paying attention.
As an aside, I just asked a man whom I respect highly, why he served. He is also my co-worker. This man is an immigrant. He is a naturalized citizen, born in the Dominican Republic. He served over 27 years in the USAF and retired from active duty as a Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted rank. He said, "I don't know, Mike. Our country is going to hell."
A kid can't fly a flag on his bike at a public school. Why did we bother?
