It's a cold, windy and wet Sunday here in the Pacific Northwest, which is to say a normal November day. I was feeling a bit queasy earlier today, something I ate maybe, but I'm a bit better now.
Within the next few months, those with Presidential aspirations will be starting to campaign in earnest. One or two already have. John Kerry was one of them, but if he thinks he will be the next President, he is dumber than I think he is and I don't think Kerry is all that bright. First, the Democrats won't be real keen to run an already proven loser. It's why Al Gore didn't run last time.
The Republican John McCain has already announced he will be running up the campaign flag to see who salutes it. It won't be me. I've never considered him to be Presidential material. I used to think that McCain made a great Senator, but I don't even think that anymore, not after his shenanigans over judicial nominees. McCain is a loose cannon. He is more into seeing himself on the talking head shows than anything else.
At this point in time, I don't see a Republican leader emerging. I didn't before the election and I still don't.
All the pundits say it is Senator Clinton's nomination to lose. Some point to Obama, but he's still a bit young. If Hillary gets the nod, my guess is Obama gets the Veep seat.
The next two years will be interesting and probably more like a roller coaster ride than not. There is already drumbeats in the congress by the left to start phasing out troops in Iraq as soon as possible and to start within four to six months even after Pelosi said that probably wouldn't happen.
There are those that want to gut the Military Commissions Act. Leaky Leahy wants "to repeal portions of the law that prevent some detainees from pursuing
federal court challenges to the government's authority to hold them
indefinitely."
The extreme left wing is demanding their due. It's gonna get ugly in the next two years. Hang on to you hats, boys and girls. It's gonna be a wild ride.
Don't be surprised if at the end of this ride, you aren't a bit queasy and lose your lunch along with your hat -- and wallet.
