Who Do We Blame For The Down Grade?

Liberals blame the Conservatives for not raising taxes enough and Conservatives blame the Liberals for spending too much.  It's kind of like a circular firing squad.  In some respects, they are both right, but they are all wrong.  The blame lies on you, and you and you.  I'm to blame as well.  We all are to blame.  The politicians only did what we told them to do.

We elected them because they promised us ice cream.  We didn't know where they were going to get it from, how much it would cost or who would even make it, but we wanted ice cream and they said they would deliver.  Pork flavored ice cream for all!  We've borrowed so heavily against our future to pay for all of this, our grandchildren are tens of thousands of dollars in debt the day they are born.

But we got ice cream - or sort of - after it's been filtered through layers of bureaucracy and fraud.  It's not that the ice cream is all bad.  We've done a lot great things. From our concrete super highway system to our electronic super highway system, we've done pretty well.

Now, however, we have come to a tipping point.  We are in a deep recession with decreasing supplies of revenues.  More people with no job, businesses making less money - the money just isn't there like it is in the good times,  We are borrowing 40 cents of every dollar we spend.  We can't keep it up. 

Imagine you credit rating if you spent $1000 a week, but only earned $600.  Frankly, I'm amazed that our credit rating is so high.  I'm surprised we aren't considered junk.

Until we stop demanding we be given ice cream and start making our own, we will not get out of this hole.  There isn't enough money anywhere to pay for all of this.  Every dollar the government spends to give us our ice cream is a dollar they had to take from you, or you, or you, or me.

In London last night, they rioted, turning some parts of the city into what looks like a scene from WWII.

The riots also come amid deepening gloom in Britain, with the economy struggling to grow amid deep public spending cuts and tax rises brought into help eliminate a budget deficit which peaked at more than 10 percent of GDP.

"We know we have been victimized by this government, we know we are being neglected by the government," said another middle-aged man who declined to give his name. "How can you make one million youths unemployed and expect us to sit down?"

Victimized and neglected by the government.  This is what happens when we decide that government solves all problems.  When the government runs out of money to give away, those who've relied on it will turn on it with rocks, bottles and Molotov cocktails.

It's probably just a matter of time that, instead of it being London, it will be in New York, or Los Angeles, or Detroit, or Seattle.

 I will also cast blame on our President. Obama has not led.  He has not offered any solutions.  He blames his predecessor, but has done nothing more than cast the blame.  He hasn't lifted one finger to change anything.  Even his crowning achievement (sort of like being crowned with a steaming pile) called "Obamacare" was not a product of his administration. It came out of the Democrat controlled Congress, not the White House.  He promised us hope and change, but hope is fading and he's not changed anything except make things worse.

Simply put, Obama is incompetent.  He hasn't a clue as to how to solve the problem.  He tried and failed to talk S&P out of downgrading us.  I'd suggest he resign, but that would leave Slow Joe Biden in charge.  Neither man has the ability, wisdom, depth or the balls to do anything but whine and blame Bush while America as we know it fades away.

Europe Is Crumbling - Are We Next?

Much of Europe is teetering on financial collapse.  The amount of money needed to sustain their socialist welfare systems is exceeding their ability to generate enough taxes to feed the beast.  Simply put, their alligator diet far exceeds their lizard ability to provide.  Free healthcare, extravagant public pensions systems and generous welfare benefits are crushing the productive class.  The gravy train is coming off the tracks.

That's Europe, you say.  Well just how far behind them are we? 

Social Security is broke.  They are paying out more than they are taking in.  There is no lock box with your money safely stashed away.  That money is long gone.  Spent years ago.  There isn't anything left but an IOU in a binder in some office somewhere that says the government will pay it back.  The only money that Social Security now has is what you are contributing today.  LBJ opened up the lock box to fund his great society.  I read a good way of putting it once.  The government gives you an IOU buy printing a piece of paper and telling you they have the funds.  Sort of like you writing yourself an IOU for ten million dollars and then declaring yourself to be a millionaire.

Folks, we are tapped out and Washington and your state's only answer is to demand you pay more and more. 

Conservatives are often accused of being negative.  We are, if you listen to some on the left, against all of this progressive stuff they keep coming up with.  Oddly enough, one of their usual canards extolling the virtues of the socialist way is to bring up Social Security. We've tried to offer up solutions for the Social Security mess.  When we did, the liberals shot it down saying the system was fine. 

The bottom line to all of this is this:  We are approaching (if we haven't already reached it or even surpassed it) the point where our debt is unsustainable.  And by that I mean they can't tax us enough to pay for it.  My grandchildren already have a tax liability in the tens of thousands of dollars and they are seven years old and under.  Greece, Spain, and Ireland are already on the verge of collapse.  I suspect we are closer than we'd like to think.

We need to reduce spending.  Most of our spending is in the way of entitlements and frankly, we need to cut as much  as we can.  That even means me, I guess, since I get a government pension.  If that means it gets reduced, then so be it.  I'll take the pill with everyone else.

Our only real answer is to reduce the size of government and not just in nibbles, but huge bites.  When government employees are making thousands more than their civilian counterparts, we have a problem.  We also need to find a way to rein in this imperial Congress.  When Nancy Pelosi's liquor bill is more than I make in several years, we have a problem.  My company doesn't fund my beer tab, yet we apparently think it's necessary to keep Pelosi and her entourage well oiled with expensive hootch.  The Republicans are just as guilty at times thinking that we owe them all of their perks. 
The job was never meant to be a career.  Congressional pensions should be eliminated in favor of a cash payout equal to one year's pay at the end of two terms to compensate their retirement fund for their service.  If they stay after that, they get a base salary, no more retirement. 

At some point, you become a serf to the government.  You already are to some extent. Do you own your home?  Not really.  I don't care if you have a clear title and deed, you don't own it.  Don't pay your property taxes and see how quick the government takes it away from you.  The lord expects the serfs to pay tribute to live under his protection.

There ain't no free lunch, folks.  The government doesn't have its own money.  It has YOUR money.  It spends YOUR money and it takes YOUR money with the force of the law and a waiting jail cell if you don't give it to them when they ask.

The party is over and we just haven't left yet.  The hangover is coming.  Socialist Europe is crumbling and yet there are a lot of people who seem to want to push us toward that end.  Santayana admonished us that the lessons of history are often repeated if not learned.  Socialism has never worked and it won't work just because Barack Obama is now President.

The Obama Birth Conspiracy

I like to consider myself to be a fairly reasonable person.  I do not subscribe to most of the conspiracy theories running around.  I like facts and reasoned arguments, not theories that take a few slivers of fact and think they can make a building out of them.  Most of them are anti-Semetic in origin  and you have to believe that for hundreds of years, this cabal of Jewish bankers have been actively following a course of world domination.  Sorry, I don't buy it.  There are other conspiracies out there that involve Free Masonry, the Roman Catholic Church and others.  Suffice to say, I will have no part of them.

Then there are the 9-11 Truthers.  There's another collection of whack jobs. 

Now there are the Birthers.  They say that Obama is not a natural born citizen - he was born in Kenya.  People send me stuff about this and it usually goes into the delete file with no comment or answer from me.

This from the McCain Campaign:

"To the extent that we could, we looked into the substantive side of these allegations. We never saw any evidence that then-Senator Obama had been born outside of the United States. We saw rumors, but nothing that could be sourced to evidence. There were no statements and no documents that suggested he was born somewhere else. On the other side, there was proof that he was born in Hawaii. There was a certificate issued by the state's Department of Health, and the responsible official in the state saying that he had personally seen the original certificate. There was a birth announcement in the Honolulu Advertiser, which would be very difficult to invent or plant 47 years in advance."

It should be obvious to anyone who visits this site that I am diametrically opposed to just about everything Obama is trying to do.  This whole birth certificate thing is a distraction that does not help our cause.  It makes us look like idiots and ya know, I don't think I could argue that it doesn't.  Even if, by some wild stroke of the imagination that he wasn't born in Hawaii, can you imagine that problems that would usher in?

And if Obama is forced to step down, we get Slow Joe Biden.  As much as I dislike Obama, Biden is worse! He probably can't get his shoes on the proper foot without help from someone.  He makes Dan Quayle look like a Rhodes Scholar!

We need to concentrate our money and our energy on the issues that matter and that if we don't stop, will bankrupt this country.  We need to work toward taking back the Congress and dumping Obama in 2012. 

Stop with the birth certificate thing.  It's silly and not worth the effort.

THE AMERICANS WITH NO ABILITIES ACT

Washington, DC - Congress is considering sweeping legislation that will provide new benefits for many Americans.

The Americans With No Abilities Act (AWNAA) is being hailed as a major legislative goal by advocates of the millions of Americans who lack any real ambition or skills...

'Roughly 50 percent of Americans do not possess the competence and drive necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in society,' said California Senator Barbara Boxer.

'We can no longer stand by and allow People of Inability to be ridiculed and passed over. With this legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special favors to a small group of workers, simply because they have some idea of what they are doing.'

In a Capitol Hill press conference, House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pointed to the success of the Transportation Security Administration, which has a long-standing policy of providing opportunity without regard to performance. 

Approximately 74 percent of postal employees lack any job skills, making this agency the single largest U. S. employer of Persons of Inability. Private-sector industries with good records of non-discrimination against the Inept include retail sales (72%), the airline industry (68%), and home improvement 'warehouse' stores (65%).

At the state government level, the Department of Motor Vehicles also has an excellent record of hiring Persons of Inability (63%).

Under the Americans With No Abilities Act, more than 25 million 'middle man' positions will be created, with important-sounding titles but little real responsibility, thus providing an illusory sense of purpose and performance.

Mandatory non-performance-based raises and promotions will be given so as to guarantee upward mobility for even the most unremarkable employees.

The legislation provides substantial tax breaks to corporations that promote a significant number of Persons of Inability into middle-management positions, and gives a tax credit to small and medium-sized businesses that agree to hire one clueless worker for every two talented hires.

Finally, the AWNAA contains tough new measures to make it more difficult to discriminate against the Non-abled, banning, for example, discriminatory interview questions such as, 'Do you have any skills or experience that relate to this job?'

'As a Non-abled person, I can't be expected to keep up with people who have something going for them,' said Mary Lou Gertz, who lost her position as a lug-nut twister at the GM plant in Flint, Michigan, due to her inability to remember righty tighty, lefty loosey. 'This new law should be real good for people like me,' Gertz added. 

With the passage of this bill, Gertz and millions of other untalented citizens will finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Said Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL): 'As a Senator with no abilities, I believe the same privileges that elected officials enjoy ought to be extended to every American with no abilities. It is our duty as lawmakers to provide each and every American citizen,   regardless of his or her adequacy, with some sort of space to take up in this great nation and a good salary for doing so.'

Blagojevich Appoints A Senator

Illinois Governor Blagojevich certainly sports a set of of grade double-A, extra large huevos.  He's been accused of not being very bright and he may not be when it comes to some things, but he knows the art of the political street fight.  Blago is the consumate dirty pol and he knows how to wage dirty political war. 

Although he said he wouldn't appoint a successor to Obama in the Senate last week, he turned around and appointed Roland Burris today.

A defiant Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Tuesday appointed a black political trailblazer in Illinois to Barack Obama's former U.S. Senate seat, a surprise move that put race front and center in the ongoing drama surrounding the scandal-tarred governor.

Like I said, Blago knows how the game is played and he knows that the race card is a pretty powerful card in Democratic circles.  He knows that by appointing Burris, he's upset an apple cart full of Democrats. 

The decision put his opponents in the uncomfortable position of vowing not to seat a veteran politician who would become the Senate's only black member.

Blagojevich isn't about hunkering down in his bunker and hiding behind a battery of defense lawyers.  He will counter attack with some pretty big guns.  If he ever does go down, it won't be because he surrendered and he won't go down alone.

This is the stuff of classic opera buffa.  It's hilarious to watch the Illinois/Chicago political machine spit and sputter, ultimately incapable of dealing with a monster of its own manufacture.  The Illinois Democrats wish he would just go away gently while Blago deftly does end runs around their clumsy attempts to subdue him.

Acorn To Be Charged Under RICO?

Someone reliable tells me this.

I hope Ace is correct.  ACORN employees have been charged in several states for actions related to vote fraud and fraudulent registrations.  RICO means they are going after them for running a criminal enterprise.  The hell of it is, they do so with our tax dollars!

Whether it impacts Obama or not is be unclear.  Obama is on record not only working for and with ACORN, but saying that community organizing groups (not specifically ACORN, but it is one of the largest ones) nwould help shape his Presidency.

It goes to judgment and character.  His association with the terrorist William Ayers and his association with ACORN is irresponsible.

We'll see tomorrow.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Epic Fail - Pelosi And The Bailout

The bailout was a fail and it was huge.  Pelosi is to leadership as Obama is to patriotic.  Two things that are absolute strangers to each other!  Pelosi is not only incompetent, she's dishonest.

This did not fail because enough Republicans didn't vote for it, it failed because Pelosi doesn't have the leadership capabilities to keep her own party in line.  The Democrats have the majority!  She wouldn't need the Republicans if she knew how to do her job.

Let it fail.  I keep hearing it is an emergency but it won't even be taken back up until Wednesday or Thursday!  If it is such an emergency, shouldn't they still be working on this?  If you go to the emergency room with an emergency that is supposed to be life or death, I hope your doctor's name isn't Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid because you are gonna die!

Let it fail. Take our medicine and move on.  To pump untold amounts of money into this boondoggle called a bailout is absolutely nuts!  And where did they get that 700 billion dollar number?  They guessed!

They chose a really big number!!!  Not based on data or facts, they just wanted 700 billion dollars as a start with hardly any strings!!!!!  I say again - THAT'S NUTS!!!!!!!!!!  Not only did they want the money, they are gonna leave many of the same players in charge!

John Edwards - Egocentric And Narcissistic JERK!

If the world didn't already know that he was an "egocentric and narcissistic", sleazebag, ambulance-chasing lawyer who made his millions suing the hell out of innocent doctors (thereby raising the malpractice insurance rates among them to the point many had to quit), then he just admitted it.   Anyone want to bet that this is only time?

First of all, it didn't take a few campaigns to bring you to that conclusion, you've probably been that way all your life.

It's obvious that Edwards is a liar and remains one.  Face it, if any part of this whole thing was a lie, Edwards would have been suing the socks off the Enquirer from the get!

Is The Party Over?

Interestingly, as I set out to write this, Newsbusters posted a poll asking who is to blame for the collapse of the Republican Party.  There were several possible responses listed here:

• George W. Bush's "compassionate conservatism"
• Expanding Medicare with prescription drugs for seniors
• Overspending while in control of Congress and White House
• Failure to reform Social Security
• Not capturing bin Laden
• Length of the war in Iraq
• Failure to stop illegal immigration
• The resignation of Tom DeLay
• Horrible leadership by Hastert and Frist
• Bush Derangement Syndrome in the media
• Other (please comment)

A case could be made for every one of these.  Certainly they have all contributed to the collapse.  As a conservative, I usually try to take the position of self-responsibility and I won't dispute the fact that we placed a loaded gun to our own head.  The first nine reasons listed are proof that we weren't all that interested in breathing in the first place.  Let's be honest.  When Republicans start acting like Democrats: engaging in debauchery, spending taxes like there is no tomorrow and engaging in various forms of corruption, what choice are we offering people?

As much as we need to take responsibility for our own classless act, we have help.  This is an assisted suicide and our own Doctor Kevorkian is the mainstream media.

Day after day in the papers and minute by minute on the networks, the press pounds out the message that the Republicans are racist, homophobic, corrupt, warmongering, child and elderly hating, sexist, environment raping oil company lovers.  When ninety percent of the press are left of center and usually vote for Democrats, we have very little voice.  When all that the public hears is vitriol against one side, the propaganda will eventually work.  People want to be nice and when you keep telling people how hateful Republicans are, they start getting the message.  Truth loses.

Sure, there's conservative talk radio, but frankly, there are relatively few voices and most people don't listen to it.  Limbaugh and Hannity have their audience, but in the scheme of things, it just isn't as effective as we think.  It's like blogging.  There are millions of bloggers, and a lot of conservative bloggers are out there.  By and large, I got the feeling that most of us were pushing Fred Thompson, but he didn't last very long at all.  Our least favorite candidate (with the exception of MoRon Paul) is the presumptive nominee.  As much as we like to think otherwise, talk radio and blogging are no match for the mainstream media. 

We also talk of the demise of the MSM like it's a done deal and frankly, it ain't!  The NYT and the WaPo may be losing subscribers, but their influence is still out there.  Look at the out and out lie promulgated by the WaPo this last week concerning McCain and Hamas.  Every major MSM outlet ran with it and after it was corrected by bloggers and the WaPo was notified, no retraction or attempt to rectify the wrong has been made.  It lends credence to the old Mark Twain truism: A lie gets half way around the world before the truth gets its pants on.

Ann Coulter is some how the devil in long legs, but Keith Olbermann is a moderate reincarnation of Edward Murrow.  Rush Limbaugh is a hate-filled bigot, but Randi Rhodes is a compassionate talker.  Fox News is run by the RNC, but CNN, MSNBC ABC and CBS are somehow nonpartisan - except when they ask Obama tough questions.

Movies are constantly portraying conservatives, military people, and businessmen as evil and contemptible figures bent on subjugating or destroying innocents.  Add to this the left's stranglehold on public education and higher education, is it any wonder we are dying? 

We are dying because we seem to not have the will to fight it.  We've allowed everyone to define us and we take it lying down.  The DNC and the Democrats can run some of the nastiest ads against us, yet when President Bush tells the truth about appeasement, the press and the Democrats cast us as liars and then lie to prove their point.

We aren't dead yet and death is not inevitable if we don't want it to be.  We need to stop trying to play nice.  I don't advocate breaking laws and I certainly don't want my party to do that, but when it comes to politics, we need to fight back just as hard and just as viciously.  Being nice is not going to win us any friends in the press.  They perceive that as weakness on our part and consider it to be a victory for them.  Take off the gloves for heaven's sake!  Hit them where they are vulnerable. 

Take this most recent incident concerning appeasement.  The Democrats really didn't deny it, they accused us of playing dirty.  They accused us of being mean.  They even had to make stuff up to show that McCain was for appeasement.

When they level a spurious charge, fight back.  Go for the underbelly.  The concept of compassionate conservatism was a lousy idea.   We need to be as compassionate to the Democrats as they are to us, which is to say - not compassionate at all.

We have a disadvantage.  The press is against us and it is difficult to get our message out, but we need to find new ways to do it.  We need to network better and we need to quit being ashamed of our conservatism.  We need to stop being intimidated by the shrieking left-wing extremists.  We need to start labeling these people as extremists because they are extreme. 

We need to stop thinking that if we use a little harsher rhetoric, they won't love us.   Forget about it because they won't love you anyway.   Who cares?  We need to go after the undecided and we need to show them in the most graphic way how socialism will negatively impact their life.  We need get down and dirty and play the game our way.

In the past few days, there's been some discussion amongst ourselves concerning this topic and as much as I'd like to think my two cents here will make a penny's worth of difference, I'd be under my own delusion.  That said, I hope someone will see this and start thinking on their own.  I hope someone will talk to someone who will talk to someone who might be in a position to actually do something. 

Call it a dream, not a delusion.
