Mike Huckabee hasn't impressed me. I'm just not convinced that he is ready for the big time. It's more a feeling then anything specific. I watched the You Tube Debates and he seemed to acquit himself fairly competently, but still, I wasn't convinced. Admittedly' I lean toward Fred Thompson, but my mind isn't 100% made up yet.
In reading the news and various blogs and opinion pieces I peruse on a regular basis when I got home from work, I first saw this Drudge Headline:
DEMS HOLD FIRE ON HUCKABEE; SEE 'EASY KILL' IN GENERAL ELECTION
Democrat party officials are avoiding any and all criticism of Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee, insiders reveal.
The Democratic National Committee has told staffers to hold all fire, until he secures the party's nomination.
The directive has come down from the highest levels within the party, according to a top source.
Within the DNC, Huckabee is known as the "glass jaw -- and they're just waiting to break it."
In the last three weeks since Huckabee's surge kicked in, the DNC
hasn't released a single press release criticizing his rising
candidacy.
The last DNC press release critical of Huckabee appeared back on March 2nd.
And when I later got to Townhall, I see a commentary by Douglas MacKinnon:
Huckabee -- The Ultimate Liberal Plant
If you are the eventual Democratic
nominee for President in 2008, who would you like to run against?
Answer: A Republican you can beat.
Chris Matthews, of MSNBC, recently asked, “Why is the liberal
media giving Huckabee a free ride?” Could the answer be as obvious as
the liberal media thinks that they have war-gamed this election better
than conservatives? Did they look at the Republican field and try to
ascertain who would be the weakest “non-fringe” candidate?
That most of the mainstream media is
going to be in the bag for the Democratic nominee, is beyond question.
As that is certainly the case, a method to their literal madness would
be in order.
Why is the liberal National Education Association of New
Hampshire coming out for Hillary Clinton on the Democratic side and
Mike Huckabee on the Republican side? What are they seeing in the
former Arkansas governor that a number of Republicans are missing?
Part of my problem with Huckabee is his stand on immigration at first and here lately, his "Willie Horton" problem.
I think these two litems should give the Huckabee supporters pause for some serious thought
I'll admit that Fred has been acting a bit more dead than alive, but I like the things he has been saying and I think he has more Conservative bona fides then the Huckster.
I think I'll just not ride that Huckabus just yet.
