McCain says he’s no Maverick.

WASHINGTON – Republican Senator John McCain, whose “maverick” breaks with his party won him media acclaim and powered his 2008 White House run, now rejects the moniker, according to Newsweek magazine.

The Arizona lawmaker, looking to thwart a primary challenge from a conservative Republican former congressman, played down his history of working with Democrats on issues like overhauling US immigration policy, curbing big money influence in politics, or fighting climate change.

“I never considered myself a maverick,” Newsweek quoted him as saying. “I consider myself a person who serves the people of Arizona to the best of his abilities.”

When he was running for President, he wanted to make sure everyone knew he was a Maverick and apt to go against his party and support Democrats.   Now, he’s in a struggle against a true Conservative and he wants to shed the name of Maverick.

Well John, your own words are against you.

I got an email today from the McCain campaign.  He is starting a PAC called Country First and wants me (and presumably anyone else who donated to his campaign) to become "charter members".

In the time since the 2008 presidential campaign ended I have had a chance to reflect on many things. And as I said on election night, I truly cannot adequately express how indebted I am to you, my entire campaign team and my running mate, Governor Sarah Palin.

The road was a difficult one from the outset. Yet, your faith, your support and friendship never wavered. Just as I have proudly served my country for more than half a century I am as committed as ever to helping see our mission through.

So to continue the movement, I have decided to launch a new grassroots organization called Country First.

Today, I'm asking you as a friend and supporter to renew your commitment to our common goals by becoming a Charter Member of Country First with an online contribution.

I donated to the campaign, but not until he announced his choice for Vice President. 

Sorry Senator, but it wasn't you I was supporting and frankly, I won't be contributing to your new PAC.  The only reason you got my money in the first place was because of Governor Palin.  Until that moment, I wasn't planning on sending you any money.  You were not exactly my first choice for the nomination. (or second or third choice for that matter!)

Good luck with that PAC thing.

Can You Imagine If John McCain...

Drudge is reporting this morning that three reporters from three large newspapers were thrown off of O-Force One.  These newspapers endorsed John McCain.  Reporters from the Dallas Morning News, The New York Post and the Washing Times  had their boarding passes revoked in favor of more sycophantic "journalists" (if that's what we call propaganda apparatchics these days).  Can you imagine John McCain doing similar?  (Ok, he threw Maureen Dowd off the plane, but it's not like anyone other than her takes her seriously.)

They found Obama's Aunt Zeituni living in public housing in Boston and a half brother living in a hut in Kenya.  Both are poor.  Can you imagine if they found a relative of McCain's living in poverty?

It's a matter of record that Obama has had more than a casual relationship with the Communist terrorist William Ayers.  Can you imagine if McCain had any kind of relationship at all with Timothy McVeigh?

Can you imagine?

I can't either.

Round Two - I Need Some Good News

As noted by so many, tonight was not a game changer. Both seem hell bent on a certain amount of spending although Obama seems to be more anxious than McCain. 

McCain had several zingers. One the best was when he reminded Obama what he said about raising taxes in hard economic times. 

Many people are saying McCain won on points, but Obama did not fail so he wins by default.  In other words, it's Obama's to lose and he probably didn't lose it tonight.

The problem is not so much Obama.  Yes, everybody knows now that he is buddy-buddy with an admitted terrorist.  Everybody knows he went to Wrights racist church.  Everybody knows that he is the most liberal Senator.  Yawn.  No one cares.  The problem is that none of that matters!

A big part of the problem is the main stream media.  We've all seen it.  We've all shaken our head at how the press is unashamedly pro Obama.

There is evidence that unprecedented vote fraud is going on in Ohio by the Democrats and no one in the press besides Fox news will say anythng!

As I've said, Obama could be caught in bed with a kid and people would blame the Republicans for deregulating something.

I realize this is somewhat disjointed and incoherent.  I am so frustrated that people care less for the security of this country than some little goody that they might get from the feds.

I'm almost numb.  I feal like at this point not much can be done.  I'll continue to blog, I'll continue to man the phones at the McCain office, I'm not going to give up until McCain concedes, but it almost seems pointless.

I need some good news.

Debate Reaction

I was going to live blog this and decided I would rather sit at the TV watching it with my sweet and wonderful wife rather than sit in the kitchen and live blog the debate.  I think there were a few times I wanted to make a few comments, but I think, after watching the whole thing without interruption, I got a better sense of it.

On the first half, I call it a draw.  McCain should have been able to knock this out of the park.  He got in some good points and he clearly made Obama squirm with his record on earmarks, but he allowed Obama to get in the tax cut lie unanswered.  Only 45% of that 95% Obama says he's going to lower taxes for even PAY taxes. 

On the subject of national security, I think McCain nailed Obama.  As a friend of mine said about the two, it was a case of "the old guy and the kid"  McCain pretty much had his way with him.  It made Obama look bad when McCain kept naming places he'd been and and people he knew. 

There were two "me two moments" for Obama.  One was when he tried to sound "experienced" talking about his trip to Georgia and the other, that turned out just absolutely childish on Obama's part was the bracelet moment.

First he proudly announced that he too had a bracelet and then you see him looking down saying "from Sgt Uhhhhhhhhhhhh...from the mother of Sgt Ryan David Jopek".  Aside from the "Me too, Daddy", he couldn't even remember whose name was on the bracelet!  He had to read the bracelet

I would have to say that McCain's final words, spoken sincerely and quietly, but with more authority than Obama could ever muster, was what a leader would say.

I also noticed that McCain visibly got to Obama several times and Obama never even got close wenough to make McCain look uncomfortable, let alone squirm.

There were no gaffes from either side.  I think the Obama people hoped they would
get under McCain's skin and he show a bit of his temper, but McCain never
lost his cool and even seemed to be enoying himself a bit.

One more observation.  Not only did Obama say "me too"  He said several times that he agreed with Senator McCain.  If, in a debate, you can get the other guy to concede your point, you win.

McCain Suspends His Campaign

I'm not exactly sure what to make of this.  This is either a huge stroke of genius, or it's the death knell to his quest to be the next President.  It is certainly the boldest of gambits ever in a Presidential campaign.

Admittedly, I'm no kind of political strategist.  If I was, I wouldn't be busting knuckles by day and pounding out my opinions on a two-bit fifth tier blog by night.  Given that caveat, I do have an idea as to what is behind this move.

Last night, Harry Reid demanded that McCain should return to work on the bailout to help pass it.  Reid, the disgusting liar that he is, said that McCain already supported the bailout, but McCain denied he was for it.  Today, McCain says he's going to return anyway to work on a bipartisan solution.  Essentially, McCain called his bluff so Reid was forced to retreat and told McCain to stay away. 

McCain is going anyway and here is my theory for what it's worth.  This whole campaign has been about who is the real reformer and who will work with the other side of the aisle to get things done.  If McCain goes back to Washington and somehow hammers out some kind of bipartisan solution, Obama will be standing at that debate hall in Oxford, Mississippi with a whole lot of egg on his face.

Obama is saying,  "Let the next President deal with it."

This favors him because polling suggests that he will be better on the economy.  It's to McCain's advantage to show that he is hands-on and leading on the issue right now.

I'm not sure how this will play out and I could be 100% wrong.  All I know is that if I'm right and he pulls it off, the debates are theater.

The Undecideds

Here we are, six weeks out and the post convention bounce for McCain is now over and the race is a veritable dead heat. 

It amazes me that there are so many people who seem to change their loyalties more often than some people change their underwear.  It makes me wonder who these people are?  Are they so indecisive that if they had a two hole outhouse, they'd explode before they finally sat down?  Do they hold up the lines at the grocery store for a few hours when offered the choice of paper or plastic? 

Who are these people that are for Obama this week and McCain the next?  I sure don't know them.  Everyone I know is either for Obama or McCain and have been since the two won their respective primaries and they aren't likely to change.

I can see someone switching to McCain.  That would be the people who are national security voters.  Those who like Obama, but realize he intends to neuter the military and they end up deciding to change on that reason alone.

Most people tend to vote their core beliefs.  Admittedly, most liberals core beliefs are fairly fluid.  I'm certain there are some hardcore Democrats out there that would vote for Osama Bin Laden if he was on the Democratic ticket.  I'm a hardcore Conservative.  However, I'm a thoughtful Conservative and I examine the candidates fairly closely.  If I thought that McCain was in some way dishonest, I might look at Obama with a hope we could survive the four years.  I disagree with some of the stances McCain has taken over the years, but he is fundamentally an honest man and most likely one of the few honest politicians.  Obama came up through the Cook County - Daley political machine.  It's a corruption laden system and Obama is a graduate of it.

The bottom line is simply this.  Who are those people whose support shifts like a windblown sand dune?

Whoever they are, I hope they get in the booth and realize who puts country first.

It's quite apparent to anyone willing to open their eyes and see, conspiracy buff or not, what the Obamites are intending to do. This isn't just an ordinary election. It is a fight for this nation. If we allow victory to be theirs then we might as well at the same time acquiesce to having the original constitution itself ripped from the national archives and replaced with excerpts from the works of Marx, Engels, and ironically, Hitler.

It's extremely important - indeed, essential to the survival of freedom as we know it - that, even if one does not necessarily have a very high opinion of McCain's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, or agree with him on all his positions, or think that someone else should have gotten the nomination, or listened to every word he said, I earnestly hope that at least the words he spoke at the end of his speech rang through loud and clear -

FIGHT for what’s right for our country.

FIGHT for the ideals and character of a free people.

FIGHT for our children’s future.

FIGHT for justice and opportunity for all.

STAND UP to defend our country from its enemies.

STAND UP for each other; for beautiful, blessed, bountiful America.

STAND UP, stand up, stand up and FIGHT. Nothing is inevitable here.

WE'RE AMERICANS, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.

It's clear that Obama doesn't want you to stand up and fight. He wants you to give up. He wants you to believe that all this talk about 'America the Beautiful' is nonsense and that's it's been bad for you. He wants you to listen to him, the Candy Man with his bag of goodies that you want and need so much.

Revolutionary change is preceded by passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution. To facilitate such reformation requires that the organizer work inside the system.

In understanding this one can see what the Obamites are attempting to do. They're applying a maxim of radical revolutionary change which has been applied repeatedly throughour history. Power over people is proportionate to the impotence of the people. If you can convince them that they are powerless, they will submit to every decision and choice you make for them. But as some of us know, those who don't learn the lessons of history must go through the experience of repeating history.

I get it because I can see it. Many others see it too. Unfortunately, many do not. If this 'agent of change' succeeds, half of those who blindly followed this charlatan, this spawn of dysfunction whose name is Buraq, will be among the first to wring their hands and gnash their teeth when they realize what they've done, when they look around themselves in horror and see that their blessed one has not miraculously transported them to seventh heaven but that they've stupidly stumbled along and followed him to the eighth circle of hell. And it will be their doing. But it will be our fault as well for allowing it to happen. We will all pay the piper in one way or another. And the pipers name will be Obama.

A fairly well-known and respected fellow named Frank Dane once said, "Get all the fools on your side and you can get elected to anything."  Hmmm...now that is a thought worth pondering as we look ahead to November.

I believe we all should think very hard about these words as well - "Guard against the impostors of pretended patriotism." The fellow who said that was named George Washington.

McCain's Speech

We all knew that McCain would give a decent speech.  I think he probably gave the best speech of his career to date.  McCain is not an "Obama-esque" orator.  Governor Palin is actually a better speaker than her boss.  But what John McCain lacks in oratorical skills, he more than makes up in passion and sincerity.

I've disagreed with John S. McCain on several issues, but I respect him.  His wife has done more for the people of this world than Obama and his wife ever will.  Some of you may get angry with this next statement, but I don't particularly care - It's the truth.  Obama might talk a good game, but he is not a leader and he isn't fit to be the President of the United States.

I think the biggest difference between Obama's speech and McCain's speech was the difference between dependence and independence.  Obama told us what government was going to do for us and McCain emphasized that we should be out there doing something worthwhile. 

My friends, if you find faults with our country, make it a better one. If you’re disappointed with the mistakes of government, join its ranks and work to correct them. Enlist…

Enlist in our Armed Forces. Become a teacher. Enter the ministry. Run for public office. Feed a hungry child. Teach an — an illiterate adult to read. Comfort the afflicted. Defend the rights of the oppressed.

Our country will be the better, and you will be the happier, because nothing brings greater happiness in life than to serve a cause greater than yourself.

By contrast, Obama wants to give you everything:

For over two decades -- for over two decades, he's subscribed to that old, discredited Republican philosophy: Give more and more to those with the most and hope that prosperity trickles down to everyone else.

In Washington, they call this the "Ownership Society," but what it really means is that you're on your own. Out of work? Tough luck, you're on your own. No health care? The market will fix it. You're on your own. Born into poverty? Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, even if you don't have boots. You are on your own.

In other words, Government will do it for you!  We will take from the rich and give to the poor.  We will give you what you need.  Depend on us!   Never mind that that concept is the actual discredited one.  What the Ownership society really means is that the welfare of individuals is directly related to their ability to control their own lives and wealth, rather than relying on government transfer payments, Government transfer payments is simply taking money from me, the tax payer, to give to you, the tax taker.

Government does not cause prosperity.  You cannot tax companies into success. 

McCain speaks of the real American way and Obama wants to give you a false way that has absolutely nothing to do with real American values of individualism and hard work. 

Obama is an empty suit with no experience.  He has no accomplishments.  He has no record of any legislation.  We don't even know what he really did as a community organizer!  He is, however, good friends with William Ayers.  An avowed America hater and unrepentant terrorist.

I'm Finally Excited!

Power was out at work (they were doing some kind work near our building) so I was out of the loop this morning.  Now I'm playing catch-up.

I am so pleased with McCain's choice of Governor Palin.  She's a gutsy, take-no-prisoner kind of fighter and reformer that won't rollover for anyone. 

She is probably the one Vice Presidential choice that has kept Obama awake at night.

What's funny is that the the Obamunists are knocking her for her "inexperience.  Does that mean that we can now ask Obama about what qualifies him, outside of being a liberal African-American, to be President.  (Yes I made reference to his race - why not - HE does!)

I fully support the McCain/Palin ticket.  I'm excited and I expect to remain so for the duration.  Palin is a game changer!

Here is a list of Democrat responses that I've gleaned from reading around:

• She has no foreign policy experience!

Well neither does Obama and Biden isn't exactly Secretary of State material having royally pissed off the Iraqis.

• She was only the mayor of a town of 9000 people!

Yeah and and now she's the governor!  She went in as a reformer and she's run the state well enough to have an 80% approval rating.  (I assume the other 20% are the crooks and liars she is putting out of business!)

• The GOP is using taking advantage of a young, naive woman for their own benefit.

Anyone who thinks that is true is just an idiot.  It's obvious sexism.

• How will she take care of her Downs Syndrome son?

The same way she does now, dumba**!

• She was picked for purely political reasons.

Yeah and name me a Veep pick who isn't.  They are all window dressing to a large degree.

I feel confident that she would make a great President should the need arise.  The country would be in good hands.  I listened to her speech from my car today and I was impressed.  I was shouting!

Go Sarah Barracuda!

Oh, and let me add, that she is a Blue Star mom!  He will soon be serving in Iraq!  Put that in your damn chicken Hawk pipes and smoke it!
