Hillary Clinton- Secretary of State?

The Guardian is reporting that Hillary has accepted the position of Secretary of State.

Now I don't know if that's 100% solid, conditional upon hubby's vetting, or completely wrong.  I will assume for the moment that it's true.  I can tell you that there are a lot worse people Obama could have chosen.  Jean Effen Kerré, for instance.

I figure I'm not going to be happy with anyone The One picks, but Hillary would probably do a decent job.  I'm willing to give her a chance.

Hillary's Speech

Listening to Hillary is tantamount to listening to a chorus of Harpies while sitting naked on a chair of ice.  It's difficult to say the least.

I'm not going to go through her speech.  She grit her teeth and said what she had to say.  She supports Obama.  She's said it; her penance paid. 

It amused me that she made reference to the progress that women have made in voting rights.  It amused me because it was the Republican majority that passed the 19th amendment in 1919 giving women the right to vote.  Probably something best left unsaid at a Democrat Convention.

It was short and to the point.  All it really accomplished was taking herself out of the running.  As much as she wanted to try to wrest the nomination from him, she knew it was a losing battle.  She hates to lose and she'd rather give in than face a floor defeat.  It's all about control.

Watch Out, Boys - Hillary Won't Play Nice!

As you've probably heard, the announcement of the century came around 4 AM, sneaking in like a husband returning home from a night of carousing.  Barack chose Biden, confirming what the press had already figured.  Just another example of that famous Obama leadership ability.

According to CNN, it appears that Hillary was more than just a little miffed at not even getting a cursory vetting for the job.

"Set aside that Obama said she'd be on anybody's short list, set aside anybody's feelings on whether she was deliberately snubbed and the pros and cons of whether it should be her," a former Clinton strategist told CNN's Candy Crowley. "Focus on the politics of it and you have about a quarter of Clinton loyalists still not joining the caravan…for God's sake, not to even make a show of taking her seriously is flatly stupid."

And this from Paul Begala:

"You can't put [Obama VP vetters] Eric Holder and Caroline Kennedy on an hour plane ride to Chappaqua just to check the box? They should have done it just for the optics," this person said. "Barack never even said to her, 'Here's how I envision the job'– not one discussion with her about [the position]."

Hillary is now doubly steamed.  She lost the primary to this upstart and now she was dissed for the Veep slot.  I don't think she expected to get it per se, but she expected a courtesy vetting.

Call me cynical, but I believe the Clintons are dangerous folks.  They are Democrats when it suits them, but it doesn't take much of a stretch to think that Obama and Biden have one heck of an enemy in the Clintons at the moment.  If the Clintons were tepid supporters in recent weeks, just wait until after the DNC Coven Convention.  If her PUMA push doesn't work (and I'm sure it won't) to make her the nominee, I'm guessing she will turn icy cold.  I think she will work against the Obamessiah and his acolyte.  Her primary reason will be to position herself for 2012 against McCain where she will have a better chance.

Watch your back, boys.  The Clintons are pissed!  It's a good thing for our side.

The Clinton Express Derailed

It was hers to lose and she lost it.  Her chances to become President are all but gone.  When the Primary season started, it was all but a given that she would be the nominee.  Her main challengers were John Edwards, a sleazy, but narcissistic ambulance chaser who was an also ran last time and Barack Obama, a relative new comer to the national political scene.  Not many people gave Obama much of a chance because he's essentially an empty suit.  And in the end, the suit stands alone - still empty, but he is the winner.  The experienced and veteran politician that is Clinton was outdone by sheer charisma.

I'm thinking this was the Clinton's last hurrah unless she, by some stupefying sleight of hand, manages to pull off becoming Obama's Veep Pick.  That ain't gonna happen.  Obama doesn't want her anywhere near the seat of power.  He may be a novice, but he knows the Clinton's obsession and he has probably read at least the Cliff's Notes version of Machiavelli's "The Prince". 

Her only hope is for McCain to win.  If he doesn't, she will be running against Obama in 2012 and I doubt she would get very far unless he totally screwed things up, which is a good possibility. But even still, she will be 65 years old and by then any number of challengers could emerge and she would be in a losing battle.  She knows it.

It's over for her.  She'll hang on to her senate seat because it keeps here near the power and the source of her addiction, but we will never call her President.

The New Improved Donko Gaffe-Matic!

Donko Acquisition Corp. announced today their newest model in their "Gaffe-Matic" Democratic Presidential Candidate...

I was going to try and write a little humorous piece about Obama and his gaffe-a-minute speech making and I just couldn't get in the mood.  Frankly, it's not all that humorous.  It's deadly serious and the MSM just seems to ignore this man's ability to make mistake after mistake and gives him a pass each and every time.

Whether it's talking to dead people, not knowing your history or even what city you are in, it doesn't seem to matter. Gaffe after gaffe, speech after speech, he can't seem to get it right.

I know campaigning is grueling and wears at you.  However, he's a young man and yet the septuagenarian he will presumably be running against doesn't seem to make those kinds of mistakes and he's running just as hard as Obama!

Bush might mangle the language, but even he didn't make the kind of factual gaffes that Obama seems to keep making.

I realize the Constitution is a little light on resume requirements, but shouldn't we expect a candidate to get the details right at least most of the time?

Hillary as Vice President

If Obama were to choose Hillary for his vice president and the won the White House, who would actually be in charge?   Would Obama really be calling the shots or would it be a Clinton team of Hillary and Bill? 

Once the Democrat primaries are over, the Clinton's will go back to being the darlings of the Democrat Party.  When the Obama Administration starts floundering, and it will quickly, will Democrats start looking to Bill and Hillary for leadership? Who will garner headlines, Obama or the Clinton's?

 I think a Clinton vice presidency will overshadow an Obama presidency.  Their’s no way Bill Clinton, former president of the US, is going to take a back seat to some still wet behind the ears Freshman Senator from Illinois.  It doesn’t matter if Obama is called President or not, Democrats will be looking to the Clinton's for leadership. 

Should The President Stay Away From The Olympics?

Hillary Clinton came out earlier this week with the opinion that President Bush should not attend the Opening Ceremonies.  RedState came out today with a petition in agreement with Clinton's statement to encourage the President to not go to China.

I usually agree with much of what churns out of RedState.  It's almost always a good read.  And I agree with them this time - sort of.  I think Mr. Bush should boycott not just the opening ceremony, but the games as a whole if China does not agree to start moving in a meaningful way on the Tibet situation.

The Democrats like to point to Mr. Bush and cite his administration as an example of "cowboy diplomacy".  In other words, they like to accuse him of shooting from the hip when it comes to dealing with the arcane world of diplomatic dancing.  Then here comes Hillary urging him to immediately jump on the ceremonial boycott bandwagon. 

Obviously Hillary thinks she will get some PR points for jumping out in front of this issue.  She sees it as a chance to show us that she can act decisively during an international kerfuffle.  She might gain a point or two in the polls, but this is really just another form of grandstanding on her part. It's just another way of playing at "cowboy diplomacy" in my mind.

What President Bush should do (and is probably doing) is to approach China with a little diplomacy to find away for the Chinese to save some face.  Only if the Chinese are unwilling to move, even a little, then the President should play the boycott card. 

The games are four months away.  If the Chinese can't give an inch or two in the next couple of months, then the President should thumb his nose.

Heads Would Roll

Concerning Hillary's statement about landing in Bosnia while under sniper fire.    

Can you imagine how many heads would roll if they landed a military aircraft during hostile fire with the First Lady and daughter on board? For her to even suggest that would indicate her perception of the Air Force is nothing but a bunch of reckless bumbling idiots.

Denver Danger

By now, you've all heard of the bomb blast at the recruiting station in Times Square.  Most folks were fairly certain that it was most likely the work of some kind of anti-war and anti-military group or individual.  The fact that some Congresscitters received photos of the building, a picture of someone standing in front of the building with arms outstretched and a 10 page political manifesto seems to bear that idea out. 

This is, of course, the inevitable result of Code Pink's antics in Berserkeley.  Not that Code Pink openly advocates such illegal activities, but you know someone or some group was eventually going to take it to the next level.  Peaceful protests and singing "Kumbaya" is nice, but some folks will eventually think they aren't getting the desired results as fast as they would like.

Back in the 60's and early 70's, the radicals that eventually formed the "Weather Underground" started out peaceful and they started bombing unpopulated buildings to get attention and then they finally started outright targeting cops and others in authority.

I've been saying for the last several months that this summer is going to be violent and I predict that 2008 will make 1968 look absolutely Gandhi-esque!.  Obviously I hope I'm dead wrong and everything is as peaceful as an ice cream social.  Obviously that is too much to probably hope for when you read things like this Huffpo article and some of the comments (Don't if you have a week stomach) and you tell me what you think.

Add to that the neo-hippies that are organizing "Recreate 68" and you'll get a real sense that Denver is going to get ugly.

Today's incident is, unfortunately, just a harbinger of a violent political season to come.

It Ain't Over

Super Tuesday II is over and not much was resolved.  According to various news sources, there are only 100 votes between Obama and Hillary. 

Does this give Hillary momentum or is it a fluke? 

Personally, I'm thinking more and more that this will be decided in Denver and the road to the Mile High City will be bloody.  It will be nothing short of a WWE cage match only it won't be scripted and the winner is anything but decided.

Ed Morrissey at Hot Air thinks that Obama has a glass jaw and it might hurt him in the end.

He blew up during a Texas press conference heavily attended by Chicago journalists. He stormed off after only eight questions regarding the contacts between his campaign and Canadian diplomats over NAFTA and the Rezko trial. The national press had already been grumbling about his insularity, and Obama gave them an excuse to write reams of material about it, Rezko, and the NAFTA dance.

In short, Obama has exposed himself as a seriously inexperienced and flawed candidate. He hasn’t really been tested until now, and the glass jaw he showed in the first few days of the real bout must have the party establishment worried about a lengthy battle against either Hillary or McCain. Against both, he may soon flounder — and that slim lead in pledged delegates will not present much of an obstacle to bypassing him in Denver.

Morrissey usually nails it as good or better as anyone in the sphere or anywhere else for that matter.   His analysis is always spot on. 

Hillary went negative and it worked probably better than even she had hoped.  If Obama continues to dis the press, he'll have hell to pay.  Clinton knows how to manipulate the press.  Not much happens that she is not in total control of and I would argue that applies to her husband's remarks as well.  I don't believe for one minute he said anything that wasn't scripted.  She didn't so much as rein him in as she/they changed his message after it backfired a bit. 

Now that the Huckster has gone Huckabye-bye, McCain has some breathing room and can concentrate on his post convention campaign while the Democrats engage in a little internecine warfare.

This ain't over by a long shot.
