No seriously for a second, thanks to the Violence Worker and his gang.  Like I mentioned on the Pigeon, my contributions will likely be appearing somewhat randomly, but I hope to contribute to the discussion in any way I can.

Tonight's Debate

I think McCain actually did better tonight than any other debate, but it wasn't enough.  I had a friend call me tonight and tell me how disappointed he was that McCain missed a plethora of opportunities to nail Obama on several issues.  He was pretty despondent about the whole thing and I can't say as I blame him.  Even though we disagreed on McCain's overall performance, it really didn't matter. All Obama had to do again was show up and not make any major gaffes.

However, while he didn't make any gaffes, he was certainly willing to bend the truth and even outright lie when it was convenient.  And the problem with that is it doesn't matter.  Most people are not going to bother looking it up for themselves.  They will rely on the major news outlets and they will not report the lies - or at least not anywhere close to prominence.

McCain came out of the corner swinging hard.  He jabbed Obama pretty good with Joe the Plumber.  Obama wasn't all that prepared for that and it put him on the defensive.  A lot of people identify with Joe.

Where McCain jabbed with ACORN (and it was a pretty good jab), he should have followed uop with a haymaker and drove the point home that Obama and his campaign spent almost a million dollars on ACORN and not let him get away with sloughing it it off.  He should have highlighted the corruption and voter fraud that is going on across the country.

McCain also put Obama in the hotseat when he asked him "Why raise taxes?" question.  It clearly made Obama uncomfortable.

McCain still needs to refine his message on healthcare.  Obama had some blows there that stuck.

McCain finished up strong with education where he put Obama on the defensive again.

Quite possibly, the one thing that might make a small difference was McCain's inadvertant Freudian "Senator Government" line.

"Senator Smirk" is probably what he should have called him.

All in all, I think McCain won handily.  Obama had to lie to keep up.  Unfortunately, unless there is some kind of October surprise, Obama will win.  If people would smarten up and understand that his economic policies are more in line with Castro than anything or anyone else

McCain needs to hammer home Joe the Plumber.  He needs to use the "S" word - Socialism.  He needs to refine that line and drive it home.  He needs to tell hard working Americans that Obam wants to take from them and give it to the crackheads, the illegals and the lazy.
 
He needs to get Joe Wurzelbacher to tell his story!

Round Two - I Need Some Good News

As noted by so many, tonight was not a game changer. Both seem hell bent on a certain amount of spending although Obama seems to be more anxious than McCain. 

McCain had several zingers. One the best was when he reminded Obama what he said about raising taxes in hard economic times. 

Many people are saying McCain won on points, but Obama did not fail so he wins by default.  In other words, it's Obama's to lose and he probably didn't lose it tonight.

The problem is not so much Obama.  Yes, everybody knows now that he is buddy-buddy with an admitted terrorist.  Everybody knows he went to Wrights racist church.  Everybody knows that he is the most liberal Senator.  Yawn.  No one cares.  The problem is that none of that matters!

A big part of the problem is the main stream media.  We've all seen it.  We've all shaken our head at how the press is unashamedly pro Obama.

There is evidence that unprecedented vote fraud is going on in Ohio by the Democrats and no one in the press besides Fox news will say anythng!

As I've said, Obama could be caught in bed with a kid and people would blame the Republicans for deregulating something.

I realize this is somewhat disjointed and incoherent.  I am so frustrated that people care less for the security of this country than some little goody that they might get from the feds.

I'm almost numb.  I feal like at this point not much can be done.  I'll continue to blog, I'll continue to man the phones at the McCain office, I'm not going to give up until McCain concedes, but it almost seems pointless.

I need some good news.

The Veep Debate

Palin was awesome.  Biden didn't even know what hit him. 

Biden did not look all that comfortable and Palin was acting like she was in her own living room.

Biden lied twice.  The clean coal lie where he said no more coal plants  and when he said that Obama would not meet with dictators without precondition.  Palin called him on it and he lied even more.

Both hamered away at their respective opponents bosses.  Palin landed more blows then old Joe.  As Mort Kondracke said afterwards, "She was feisty."

Americans are looking for someone that knows their struggles.  We've heard a lot of talk about Main Street these past few days and I can tell you, Joe Biden couldn't find main street on anyone's map.  Sarah Palin is from Main Street. 

I actually think most people recognize that and I think she may have changed the game a bit.

Any bets that the unhinged left will redouble their nasty attacks on Palin?

For the mean time, Palin is back and we are excited again!

Debate Reaction

I was going to live blog this and decided I would rather sit at the TV watching it with my sweet and wonderful wife rather than sit in the kitchen and live blog the debate.  I think there were a few times I wanted to make a few comments, but I think, after watching the whole thing without interruption, I got a better sense of it.

On the first half, I call it a draw.  McCain should have been able to knock this out of the park.  He got in some good points and he clearly made Obama squirm with his record on earmarks, but he allowed Obama to get in the tax cut lie unanswered.  Only 45% of that 95% Obama says he's going to lower taxes for even PAY taxes. 

On the subject of national security, I think McCain nailed Obama.  As a friend of mine said about the two, it was a case of "the old guy and the kid"  McCain pretty much had his way with him.  It made Obama look bad when McCain kept naming places he'd been and and people he knew. 

There were two "me two moments" for Obama.  One was when he tried to sound "experienced" talking about his trip to Georgia and the other, that turned out just absolutely childish on Obama's part was the bracelet moment.

First he proudly announced that he too had a bracelet and then you see him looking down saying "from Sgt Uhhhhhhhhhhhh...from the mother of Sgt Ryan David Jopek".  Aside from the "Me too, Daddy", he couldn't even remember whose name was on the bracelet!  He had to read the bracelet

I would have to say that McCain's final words, spoken sincerely and quietly, but with more authority than Obama could ever muster, was what a leader would say.

I also noticed that McCain visibly got to Obama several times and Obama never even got close wenough to make McCain look uncomfortable, let alone squirm.

There were no gaffes from either side.  I think the Obama people hoped they would
get under McCain's skin and he show a bit of his temper, but McCain never
lost his cool and even seemed to be enoying himself a bit.

One more observation.  Not only did Obama say "me too"  He said several times that he agreed with Senator McCain.  If, in a debate, you can get the other guy to concede your point, you win.

McCain Suspends His Campaign

I'm not exactly sure what to make of this.  This is either a huge stroke of genius, or it's the death knell to his quest to be the next President.  It is certainly the boldest of gambits ever in a Presidential campaign.

Admittedly, I'm no kind of political strategist.  If I was, I wouldn't be busting knuckles by day and pounding out my opinions on a two-bit fifth tier blog by night.  Given that caveat, I do have an idea as to what is behind this move.

Last night, Harry Reid demanded that McCain should return to work on the bailout to help pass it.  Reid, the disgusting liar that he is, said that McCain already supported the bailout, but McCain denied he was for it.  Today, McCain says he's going to return anyway to work on a bipartisan solution.  Essentially, McCain called his bluff so Reid was forced to retreat and told McCain to stay away. 

McCain is going anyway and here is my theory for what it's worth.  This whole campaign has been about who is the real reformer and who will work with the other side of the aisle to get things done.  If McCain goes back to Washington and somehow hammers out some kind of bipartisan solution, Obama will be standing at that debate hall in Oxford, Mississippi with a whole lot of egg on his face.

Obama is saying,  "Let the next President deal with it."

This favors him because polling suggests that he will be better on the economy.  It's to McCain's advantage to show that he is hands-on and leading on the issue right now.

I'm not sure how this will play out and I could be 100% wrong.  All I know is that if I'm right and he pulls it off, the debates are theater.

Drilling And Spilling

It's almost as if there is some kind of "accepted science" that if you drill for oil, you will create an environmental disaster of epic proportions.  If you drill off the coast, the inevitable consequence will be a spill that destroys the coast and kills marine life for generations.

It's a crock!

The vast majority of oil spills are not from drilling rigs or pump rigs.  Most are transport accidents involving ships, tanker trucks, and pipelines. Pelosi and her band of left-wing extremist colleagues are basing their entire eco-disaster scenario on one incident from 1969 - the Santa Barbara Spill.  Indeed, that spill caused a lot of problems and some say that incident fueled (pardon the pun) Earth Day celebration and was also the impetus for the modern day eco-nut movement.

What they don't tell you is that spill was entirely preventable.  It was caused by substandard equipment that the Federal government allowed to be used.  Had they used better equipment, we might well be out there drilling off the California coast today.

The Republicans need to step up to the plate and start fighting for us.  The Democrats are beholden to the environmentalists who have stated on many occasions (and just recently Al Gore) that they want to rid us of oil usage all together!

There is a lot of oil to be had in this country alone and we need to start measuring the cost of minor disruptions to the environment (if that)  compared to the human costs of forced poverty because oil prices are starting to become out of reach for some Americans.

Oil companies and oil producing nations are pumping millions of barrels of oil out of the sea every day with almost zero impact upon the environment.  We, on the other hand, are kowtowing to a handful of extremists who claim that drilling oil anywhere will pollute the world and we will all die.

It's a lie and we need to expose it.

Reason Number 3,690,741 to not vote for John McCain!

From the NYT:

And then he [Bill Clinton] painted this scene: “She and John McCain are very close,” he said. “They always laugh that if they wound up being the nominees of their party, it would be the most civilized election in American history and they’re afraid they’d put the voters to sleep because they like and respect each other.”

If THAT doesn't persuade you to not vote for John McCain in the primaries, nothing will.

Obama Beware!

The Clinton Campaign just committed the dirtiest of tricks.  They thew out some mud, the apologized, but in their apology set the stage by hopefully throwing out some bait. The bait was possible problems in Obama's past. 

Shaheen, an attorney and veteran organizer, had said much of Obama's background is unknown and could be a problem in November 2008 if he is the Democratic nominee. He said Republicans would work hard to discover new aspects of Obama's admittedly spotty youth.

"It'll be, 'When was the last time? Did you ever give drugs to anyone? Did you sell them to anyone?'" said Shaheen, whose wife, Jeanne, is a former New Hampshire governor and is running for the U.S. Senate next year.

"There are so many openings for Republican dirty tricks. It's hard to overcome," Shaheen said.

Yeah, it's dirty.  There's no specific allegations, just innuendo and a wink-wink and a nudge-nudge.  Sure, Hillary apologized and Shaheen resigned.  It's not like she meant it or that he's out of a job.  He's getting ready to set up his wife's Senatorial campaign.  Plus, he'll be back in some capacity. Ostensibly at some lower level on paper, but he will most likely be back.

The Clinton smear machine is just starting to crank up and if she slips even more, look for that machine to be put in overdrive.  Even if it means another staffer falls on their sword, she will get nasty.

In the end, I don't think anyone really trusts the Clintons.  Obama is a fool if he thinks that apology was even close to sincere, but I'm sure he's smart enough to know better.

This isn't pro-Obama. It is anti-Clinton.
