Apparently it offends some people in California. And what I have to say about them and like-minded idiots elsewhere may not be safe for younger eyes.
From Fox News:Administrators at a California high school sent five students home on Wednesday after they refused to remove their American flag T-shirts and bandannas -- garments the school officials deemed "incendiary" on Cinco de Mayo.
The five teens were sitting at a table outside Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Calif., on Wednesday morning when Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez asked two of them to remove their American flag bandannas, one of their parents told FoxNews.com. The boys complied, but were asked to accompany Rodriguez to the principal's office. The five students -- Daniel Galli, Austin Carvalho, Matt Dariano, Dominic Maciel and Clayton Howard -- were then told they must turn their T-shirts inside-out or be sent home, though it would not be considered a suspension. Rodriguez told the students he did not want any fights to break out between Mexican-American students celebrating their heritage and those wearing American flags.
The administrators at this high school should be taken out and have their collective asses kicked until they can't sit down for a year. If they think wearing the American flag may incite a fight, then deal with who started the fight.
And to anyone who might find the flag of this country "incendiary" or offensive in any way: GET THE F&*K OUT OF MY COUNTRY!!!!!!!
That's right, LEAVE! Go back to what ever crap hole country you crawled out of (or find one you like better) and salute what ever crap-covered rag you call a flag to your hearts content. This is MY country and that is MY flag and if you don't like me wearing it on the 5th of May or any other day, then get the hell out of my country and never show your moronic ass in it again!
I spent 20 years in this country's uniform. Many more did similar and faced more danger than I ever did. All of us did it so you can wear a picture or depiction of the US flag if we want. (By coincidence, I am wearing one today.)
Do not come to my home, my country, and complain about my flag! If you do, then you deserve to have the flag of whatever place you came from shoved so far up your ass, people will think it's your tongue.

WELL SAID, VW! It makes me wonder why they didn't censure Obama for wearing that American flag lapel pin during his Cinco de Mayo speech. It also makes me wonder what might happen to kids who might take a fancy to displaying an American flag on Cuatro de Julio, particularly if public schools were in session at that time.

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday in Mexico, not the United States. To prevent Americans from wearing the American Flag is disrespect to the thousands of Americans who died defending this nation.
I saw on TV that the Americans wearing the American Flag in America offended the Mexicans in the school who wanted to celebrate a Mexican holiday. If the want to celebrate it so bad without being offended by the American Flag, go to Mexico and celebrate it there.

Beneath your exterior of pissed-off-ed-ness, I couldn't agree more. Well, actually I did a blog post several years ago about the whole "legality" of wearing the flag as clothing, but I've long ago given up on that argument as moot. Meantime: I'm all about folks celebrating their heritage - Scottish, Mexican, Polish, WHATEVER. But yes: if you're here, in this country, and you WANT to be here in this country, then you respect the rights of OTHERS to display the flag on any day they want to. If you're here, then that flag represents what you want by being here in the first place. If you don't want what that flag represents…go somewhere else.

I just wish that free speech came with come complementary decorum. I agree 1000% that they should be allowed to wear whatever they want.
But in the write-up on the story in the local rag: http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_15030582
it talks about how they wore them specifically for Cinco de Mayo, and additionally in support of the Arizona immigration bill.
Again, they should be allowed to do it? But do they have to? It's one bloody day...can't they just let the Mexican kids enjoy their one day, if they want to?
I don't know...I guess I just feel like just because we have the right to do something doesn't mean we can't still have some sensitivity in their application here and there.
Also, I hate teenagers. I wanna get that out there.
Awesome passion in the post, though. I have the pleasure of knowing the author well enough to know that it isn't any kind of artifice.

St. Patricks day is basically Irish holiday and you don't see the Irish getting upset when the American Flag flies on St Patricks Day or during its parades
Columbus day is basically an Italian holiday and you don't see the Italians getting upset when the American Flag flies on Columbus Day or during its parades
Oktoberfest is basically a German holiday and the Germans don't get upset when the American Flag flies during Oktoberfest celebrations
Kościuszko Day is celebrated by Polish and the Polish don't get upset when the American Flag flies during Kosciuszko Day. Kosciuszko is a Polish general who helped the American Colonists fight the British.
Since on other nationality is offended when the American Flag flies during celebrations related to their ethnicity, why should the Mexicans be?
