Liberals in the Senate are drafting a bill that will mandate health insurance and fine you up to 1000 dollar if you don't.
WASHINGTON -- Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage could be hit with fines of more than $1,000 under a health care overhaul bill unveiled Thursday by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama's top domestic priority. The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines will raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage. Under the federal legislation, families would pay higher penalties than individuals.
This is not the country that was founded 233 years ago. We are leaving freedom for serfdom, liberty for slavery to a monolithic state. A state that will not be responsive nor accountable.
You must understand that when the state takes over your health insurance, they will own you. You no longer will make decisions concerning your health. When you get to a certain age (to be determined by some bureaucrat), expensive life saving treatment will be withheld. Those of you who are stupid enough to think when the state pays for your doctor, that everything will be covered will deserve what you get.
The healthcare system is broken and there needs to be some changes. Despite what they say, the liberal democrats' goal is single payer. That means the Government and that means they own you.

I'm not sure on the details of this plan (don't really care either, seeing as how I'm living in California now), but let me just say that from the perspective of an ER nurse, those without insurance are sucking the money right out of your wallet. A large number of patients coming into the ER do not have insurance and we have to provide the same care to them as to anybody who walks in the door, meaning expensive blood work, radiology tests, and specialist consults, and much of the time the onus falls back on the insured or the taxpayer or both to pay for it. If this 1000 dollar fine is going toward covering those types of visits, then I actually can see where this could be a good plan if aimed the right direction. That said, I agree with you that the Democrats have one goal and only one goal in mind, and most likely this plan will be but a stepping stone to get there.
I would like to see a plan where if you choose not to have cheap health insurance, then you have that right, but if you get sick and need care, then you can get a loan to cover the cost which would be paid off at a rate of 20 dollars per hour for some type of community service. That way nobody is forced to have healthcare, but at the same time people can't do as they are doing now and freeride the system with no consequences and no motivation to take personal responsibility.

I added the link - forgot to do that.
We all know that the uninsured are a problem and a drain. There should be some sort of voluntary safety net in place. The problem lies in forcing people to have insurance. It's one thing to do so to drive a car, it's quite another for something like health insurance.
We will cease to be citizens and we will become wards of the state.

If we value ALL human life (including the health of that life), then we need a way to avoid the drain you both mentioned.
The thing that scares me about Federally-run health care is exactly what VW said: a determination will be made as to "overall effectiveness" regarding certain treatments. So: if my grampa is 80, and there's a drug on the market that could improve his overall quality of life, but the Fed says it will "only" do so for a couple of years, then it therefore isn't cost-effective and he can't get insurance to pay for it. THAT'S B.S.!

First up, I have government provided healthcare insurance. It's called TriCare. It is the coverage provided for Armed Forces Retirees. It works pretty good, especially here in Wichita, home of McConnell AFB and the 22nd Air Refueling Group. A large number of physicians in town accept the TriCare standard. Uncle pays 80% and I pay 20%. I also have a 30% Service Connected Disability Rating. Twenty years of turning wrenches and occasionally hanging bombs did take a toll.
My wife is diabetic and has mobility problems as a result of a couple of accidents. Since the proposed rationing will cause her extreme difficulty, who do I blame, besides the obambozo. I want a name to hold accountable. I know Max Baucus is one and I do know him. I am originally from Havre, Montana. Havre is one of the union strongholds that owns Baucus. It is a railroad town, with BMoW, TY&E, UTU and Teamsters. His other owner is the teachers union. Mom ws a longtime member of the Baucus ownership as she was a teacher and school librarian. Dad was in the IBEW. Been there, done that.
So, will I be fined the one thousand bucks for not signing up? And who do I kick the crap out of when my wife suffers waiting for treatment? Someone has to be held accountable. This part is relavant to getting the money back. Because I will get it back, even in kind if necessary. And if that means putting some scumbag congress-critter or bureaucrat in the ER, then so be it.
