Cash For Clunkers Crashes

So the "Cash for Clunkers" program already needed a bailout because the government underestimated the number of people wanting to participate.  As I was perusing the Drudge Report, I saw this little headline:

"If they can't administer a program like this, I'd be concerned about health insurance..."

This is not anecdotal. Think of it.  Since Dear Leader took office, what has worked?  What program that they have rammed through the congress has worked like they said it would?

How's that Stimulus working out for you?  They promised that unemployment would go no higher than 8 percent.  We are at 9.5 % and climbing.  How many of those so-called "shovel ready" jobs are in work?  What about those 5 million "Green Jobs" we were promised.  If we are going to make that 5 million Mark, 833 thousand of them should have been created by now.  Instead, we've continued to lose millions of jobs.

Absolutely nothing has worked anywhere close like this administration has said it would and you want to trust them with your health care?  Are you kidding me? 

These are the people you want to trust with your life or with your family's life?

That Was Tedious

As long time readers know, I travel from time to time.  My job has taken me to a few exotic locals and some more mundane destinations.  My last trip was to the Land Down Under and Brisbane this past February. 

I'm scheduled (You never are really sure your going until you are on the airplane) for a trip of several weeks to some place which I choose not to disclose for a variety of reasons.  It's not classified, but I think its best some things are not usually discussed in public untill I'm on my way.

In anticipation of this trip, I bought a shiny new Hewlett-Packard G70 series Laptop.  It's not a powerhouse, but it's more than adequate for my traveling needs.  When I'm not traveling, it will be the wife's computer.  It's set up with all she needs for email, word processing and web surfing.

Setting up Norton was a pain and took over an hour.  Since my subscription is good for three computers, I added it to the new one.  It got stuck in a loop, removing the trial Nortion and installing the new.  Needless to say, I was connected to tech support most of that hour as some guy from India wondered through my registry and downloading this tool and that.  Suffice to say, he finally got it going and my new baby is secure.  

Add to that, it was probably approaching 100 degrees in my kitchen where I was working.  Oy!

Anyway, it's done.

The Presidential Kegger

So Gates , Crowley and Obama are going to throw back a few beers tonight and talk about their differences and maybe have some kind of "teachable moment".  Aside from the fact they are going to be drinking Bud Light (which to me is kind of like serving wine coolers at a state dinner) there is one person missing from this little summit.  That is Lucia Whalen.

Lucia Whalen has been trashed and threatened for doing nothing more than calling the cops and reporting suspicious activity.  Before the 911 tapes came out, everyone knew she must have described two black males or even worse.  The liberals are reviling her for not instantly recognizing it was the world-renowned, universally acclaimed and instantly recognizable Professor Henry Louis Gates, Junior. 

It's good that Gates, Crowley and Obama are going to have a good-old-boy time tonight, slammin' some brewskis, talk about a little huntin' and fishin', maybe some sports (how 'bout them Nationals. eh?), brag about a conquest or two, and discuss race relations in America.  You know, all the things guys normally talk about when they get together over some beers.

So what about Lucia Whalen?  From Politico:

Instead, she has been reviled. She has been scorned. She was pilloried in the mainstream media and abused in the blogosphere. “Whites like Lucia have bigotry programmed into them,” one Cambridge blogger wrote. “Her description of the two black males is just so, so bigoted. Not only that, it could have led to people getting shot unnecessarily.”

The crap missile is now aimed squarely at her.  Had she not called 911 to report this incident, none of this would have happened.  She is now, the bad guy.  Gates, Crowley and Obama will  maybe drown their differences, but Lucia is left to fend for herself.

This whole incident has become farce.  Gates said stupid things, Crowley said stupid things and Obama said stupid things and the irony is that the only one who didn't say stupid things won't be at the party.

I can't wait to read about it tomorrow.  With the way this whole thing has heretofore played out, it's anyone's guess as to what will happen and what will be reported.  I wonder if they'll even mention her?

A Little Perspective

It supposed to be hot here in Western Washington.  It's supposed to hit a sweat gushing 103 degrees.  I'm not complaining.

I don't have to wear a long sleeved Battle Dress Uniform, full body armor and carrying a rucksack and a rifle while dodging potshots from enemy terrorists and running down a street that smells worse than the inside of Michael Moore's undershorts.

103 degrees is a bit warm, but I can deal with it.  You won't hear me complaining.

Pain - The End Of The Saga

Hopefully, the saga is just about over.  This afternoon, I had the tooth extracted that was killing me over the weekend.  I spent two hours in the chair while the dentist worked like hell to get this thing out. The last root was a killer.  As hard as he tried to numb that last nerve, it didn't work.  He was frustrated and I was in agony.  Finally, I just said go for it.

He went for it.  I was in agony as he grabbed that last piece and rocked it out of its socket.  Despite the intense pain, I was so relieved.  It was worth it.  With today's temperature  hovering in the sauna range, we both were covered in sweat.

It isn't too awfully bad at the moment.  The pain meds are keeping it at bay.  I should be back tomorrow, ready to take on the the world.

The Obama Birth Conspiracy

I like to consider myself to be a fairly reasonable person.  I do not subscribe to most of the conspiracy theories running around.  I like facts and reasoned arguments, not theories that take a few slivers of fact and think they can make a building out of them.  Most of them are anti-Semetic in origin  and you have to believe that for hundreds of years, this cabal of Jewish bankers have been actively following a course of world domination.  Sorry, I don't buy it.  There are other conspiracies out there that involve Free Masonry, the Roman Catholic Church and others.  Suffice to say, I will have no part of them.

Then there are the 9-11 Truthers.  There's another collection of whack jobs. 

Now there are the Birthers.  They say that Obama is not a natural born citizen - he was born in Kenya.  People send me stuff about this and it usually goes into the delete file with no comment or answer from me.

This from the McCain Campaign:

"To the extent that we could, we looked into the substantive side of these allegations. We never saw any evidence that then-Senator Obama had been born outside of the United States. We saw rumors, but nothing that could be sourced to evidence. There were no statements and no documents that suggested he was born somewhere else. On the other side, there was proof that he was born in Hawaii. There was a certificate issued by the state's Department of Health, and the responsible official in the state saying that he had personally seen the original certificate. There was a birth announcement in the Honolulu Advertiser, which would be very difficult to invent or plant 47 years in advance."

It should be obvious to anyone who visits this site that I am diametrically opposed to just about everything Obama is trying to do.  This whole birth certificate thing is a distraction that does not help our cause.  It makes us look like idiots and ya know, I don't think I could argue that it doesn't.  Even if, by some wild stroke of the imagination that he wasn't born in Hawaii, can you imagine that problems that would usher in?

And if Obama is forced to step down, we get Slow Joe Biden.  As much as I dislike Obama, Biden is worse! He probably can't get his shoes on the proper foot without help from someone.  He makes Dan Quayle look like a Rhodes Scholar!

We need to concentrate our money and our energy on the issues that matter and that if we don't stop, will bankrupt this country.  We need to work toward taking back the Congress and dumping Obama in 2012. 

Stop with the birth certificate thing.  It's silly and not worth the effort.

Pain - The Continuing Saga

Sleep deprivation will turn you into warm Jello.  You become this semi-gelatinous blob oozing through the house - more than the usual, anyway.  Lucidity slowly sneaks away until you start wondering around the house with your arms outstretched shouting "Brains!" in a low, raspy growl until your wife tells you to stop because you are scaring the grandkids and to go back to your computer and shut up.

Seriously, I was unable to sleep from Thursday morning when I went to work until this morning at round 5 AM.  I slept until noon.  Every time I tried to sleep, the pain would come back within a few seconds.  I literally had to keep the left side of my mouth bathed in ice water or it would feel like someone was pounding red hot nails into my jaw using a sixteen pound sledge.  Percocet and Ibuprofen were about as good at controlling the pain as taking a hand full of M&Ms. 

I'm still not 100%, but I can at least function now and Brains don't seem to be as appetizing as they did last night.  I have a dental appointment tomorrow at 3 PM so I assume I'll be out for that evening as well, but for now, I'm doing better.

Why We Can't Have That "Honest Conversation"

Back last February, Attorney General Eric Holder said this about race relations:

"Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards," 

And I said back then that as long it is the liberals and race hustlers like Al Sharpton controlling the discussion, we will never have an honest discussion.

Holder can talk about race any way he pleases.  White people, to include white liberals, have no such luxury.  We are only allowed to talk about race within the bounds of white guilt.  If we so much as stray one millimeter from that line, we are racists.

Thursday, Obama's answer to the question about the earlier arrest of Professor Gates is the reason there can be no honesty.  The political left in this country does not want an honest discussion because if we ever really do have that discussion, they could not control the outcome.  When Obama said, before knowing all of the facts,that the Cambridge Police were "acting stupidly", he was providing the settled argument.  By "acting stupidly", he was saying "institutional racism" because all white cops are racist.  It's settled science, just like global warming.  The cops were racist and the poor innocent professor was the victim of their overt oppression.

When it came to light that the story wasn't quite as the professor first stated, it created a bit of a stir; enough so that the President felt compelled to call Sgt Crowley.  While he didn't outright apologize he did "clarify" his remarks.

"I want to make clear that in my choice of words, I think I unfortunately gave an impression that I was maligning the Cambridge police department and Sgt. Crowley specifically. And I could've calibrated those words differently."

Sorry Mr. Obama, but you were indeed maligning them.  You spoke before you knew the facts and ended up with a shoe leather steak in your mouth. 

And "calibrated those words"?  What the heck do you mean by that?  As a mechanic by trade, a number of the tools and test equipment I use must be periodically calibrated.  That is, their accuracy is compared and adjusted (if need be) to a national or international standard. In all my years, I've never seen or heard of words that required calibration.  Me thinks even Dubya probably knows that much.

In any case, Sgt Crowley says he's OK with it and I suppose that's good enough for me.  My main point is not about that so much as it is about this conversation about race we are supposed to be so afraid to have.  Is it any wonder we can't have it?

Pain II

It seems the dental demons are not through with me.  They are back with a vengeance.  I have another appointment tomorrow and some heavy duty drugs to get me by.

Pain - UPDATE

I knew this day was coming for about 6 months now.  The dentist found a cracked tooth.  He warned me that at some point, it would become very painful and unfortunately, the nature of the crack would make saving the tooth impossible.  Well yesterday it started and I tried to keep it at bay, but it is now screaming for attention.  I should have made an appointment right away, but I thought I knew better.  I didn't.

I have a 7 AM appointment for tomorrow.

They pulled the offending tooth and I'm home recuperating.  If I feel better later, I might write something but for now, I'm laying low.
