The median price of a house fell in Detroit to 7500 dollars and no, I didn't leave off a zero. Hell, you can't buy a new car for that price. The Nissan Versa is the least expensive car in the US and it lists for $9,990.
Detroit is the epitome of what happens under prolonged, corrupt, liberalism. A parade of liberal mayors and their city councils ran the factories out of the city and state. They passed tax after tax designed to squeeze every dollar they could out of the big three and they've succeeded in running them out of town. When the big three told the local communities, including Detroit, that if there was no end in sight, they would move and build new factories elsewhere - and by and large, they did. Between predatory taxation, unions intent on sucking up every bit of profitability out of what was left, and aging factories that would cost as much to retrofit as a new factory built somewhere else to meet the increasing regulatory requirements, the big three went elsewhere to build.
As an example, in Pontiac Michigan, there is not one single Pontiac automobile made there. All that's left is the shell of a huge factory that sits between Baldwin and Joslyn Avenues. The parking lots, that once had hundreds of cars parked in them almost 24/7, are empty. All that's left is a small security contingent and caretakers. It now stands as a monument to taxation, regulation and overpriced labor.
Pontiac is about to be taken over the state because of long time mismanagement.
In the last six years, under the guise of demonizing the former Republican governor, The Granholm administration and the Democrats have made job creation so expensive through oppressive taxation, they have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country at 10.6%.
