Hope and change we were told. Obama is going to change how Washington does business. We will be put on the path to righteousness and progress.
We were told that the culture in Washington was going to change. Gone would be the excesses of the country club Republicans. Gone would be the extravagances. This would be the administration that was going to lead the way in climate change and trimming the budget.
That was what we were told. Reality, on the other hand, is a completely different beast all together.
President Obama's words appear to be just that: Just words.
"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.
"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.
On his first full day in office, the President decided to shuck his jacket in the Oval office. We were first told that it was because Obama wanted to be a little less formal. You know, a man of the people. OK, Maybe he does, but it could also be because he's jacked up the thermostat to sauna shack levels.
And this past week, Obama threw a party to wine and dine the Congressional leadership of both parties in order to get this pork-laden, Zimbabwe II bill passed. At this little soiree, the man form Hope and Change served Wagyu steak. Wagyu Steak can easily cost you over $100 per serving. I'm guessing for this meal, just the cost of food alone was worth more than I make in two months.
George Bush is pounded for spending 40 million for his inaugural, yet Obama spent four times that much and it's all good. No one but conservatives said a word.
Somewhere, Marie Antoinette is laughing her butt off.
