Sunday,I wrote about Detroit and it's slow death by liberal strangulation. I linked to a Time Magazine pictorial highlighting some of the decay. Those pictures were mostly of dilapidated industrial buildings. Last night and today, I used Google Maps Street view tool to take a little virtual tour of Detroit and her neighborhoods.
I looked in probably 20 -25 different neighborhood areas. I randomly placed the little icon in different places across the city. In every case, vacant lots, boarded up buildings, weed choked sidewalks were evident.
This is a shot of 25th street between Grand Boulevard and the I-96 freeway. On the right in the distance is a fire hydrant. It looks like a rural street, but this was once a residential neighborhood street with houses and families.
I looked all over the city and neighborhood after neighborhood is in some stage of decay.
Try it out for yourself and see if I'm wrong.

I don't doubt it Violence Worker.
Google has some great tools to use.

I saw an article a few years ago that Detroit was the fastest re-vegitating city in the US. Meaning it was the city with the most area of it being retaken by vegitation (mostly weeds) but its greening faster than the rest of the US. I guess all that carbon in those burned out buildings really helps the grass grow.

I saw the Remains of Detroit photos and they were interesting but disheartening. I've never been there, but the years of problems are clear. These also have some interesting photos of the city:
