Remember when we decided to eliminate the regime of Saddam Hussein? Do you remember the so-called "peace rallies" all over the world? And even today, the shrill cries of "War Criminal" dominate the left's anti-war crusade. Part of the argument is that Saddam Hussein posed no threat to us.
I'm no foreign affairs expert by any stretch. I probably know a little more than most Americans about this mess in South Ossetia. The Caucasus region is oil-rich and Russia covets it. It's a region fraught with nationalistic rivalries that go back for a few eons. In other words, diversity isn't exactly celebrated there. South Ossetia is one of those little ethnic areas that borders Russia and Georgia and wants autonomy from Georgia. Georgia attacked the Ossetians and Russia counter attacked the Georgians attacking South Ossetia.
It's a mess and not likely to end well for Georgia. Although Georgia is now asking begging for a cease fire, Russia will probably keep going until either the Georgians are completely run out of South Ossetia, or until they march into Tbilisi and control both Georgia and South Ossetia.
Where are the cries of War Crimes or the protests for peace. Admittedly, this current escaltion is fairly recent, but let me ask you, if this was the US attacking a Mexico though a breakaway Mexican state on our border, what do you think the reaction from the leftists would be? What would be the reaction if we just demolished everything in our path?
Our military does its best to limit collateral damage. We attack with almost surgical skill, targeting the bad guys while trying not to destroy infrastructure or innocents. Russia charged into South Ossetia with blitzkrieg brutality, destroying whatever and whoever was in its path. I might add that Russia was not attacked directly, although they had some "peacekeepers" that got caught in the initial Georgian attack.
The bottom line is this. In this world today, only Americans commit war crimes. Almost everyone else gets a pass.

I agree totally with this post, VW. I also wrote a post exposing the discrepancy between the reaction of the peace crowd to our liberation of Iraq and their non-reaction to Russia's aggression. Great minds think alike! Keep up the good work of exposing the hypocrisy of the left.
