The left is afraid of free speech. They understand the power of words and they understand, in order for them to prevail, they must shut down opposition. That can range anywhere from trying to dismissal to outright censure. Ever since the Democrats retook Congress, the so-called (and misnamed) "Fairness Doctrine has been simmering. Bush mentioned it last week saying he would veto a "fairness doctrine" style bill.
Today, while shooting a scene for a movie about Harvey Milk, the gay San Freakcisco city councilman who was assassinated, Sean Penn (who plays Milk) said something enigmatic:
A production assistant followed Penn around the front of City Hall with a large navy blue umbrella. She held it over his head to shield him from the sun. Seeing he had a captive audience, Penn broke loose of the umbrella to deliver an impromptu speech that Milk would have loved.
"I almost wish Jerry Falwell were alive to see this. Almost," Penn shouted to the crowd. After dropping some names of conservatives who are still with us - "Bill O'Reilly, who is too stupid to talk about," and "Sean Hannity, the butt boy of Rupert Murdoch," Penn said, "We know something more. We know their end is near." (emphasis added)
Penn, in his usual unintelligible way, seems to think that Fox News will cease to exist in the near future. Leave aside his disgusting little homophobic joke that no one will ever call him on, just exactly what does he mean. Does he have some inside information? Is it just wishful thinking (provided he's even capable of registering an original thought) that is talking here?
I think even he understands what the Democrats intend to do when they take office.
The truly ironic part of the fairness doctrine is that the left has constantly accused Bush of attempting to destroy the Constitution and here the Democrats are poised to take a huge slap at it with the so-called fairness doctrine by limiting who says what over the media.

What would you expect from Madonna's boy and Hugo Chavez's good buddy.
Their's been some flooding in Missouri. Maybe Gilligan Penn will come here with his boat and entourage to rescue some folks.
