My favorite niece (Okay, she's my only niece so I can say that!) wrote a comment to me on My Space. Her name is Kat. It's short for a much longer handle. I really haven't had a chance to get to know Kat as well as I would like. I was in the Air Force when she was born and so I rarely got a chance to see her much. It seems that here in the past few years, because of the blog we've had a chance to talk more than we ever did. Kat is married with two kids and lives back in Michigan. She is 30,looks 20 and she likes Irish Punk. I've learned from her that Flogging Molly is actually quite listenable. Who knew?
Kat wrote a comment to me on my myspace page:
I'm so conflicted about this election. I have always said, "okay this is who I'm gonna vote for". I have researched and listened and I don't like ANY of the candidates!!! I'm thinking about just writing your name in!!! You would make a great pres. you and maybe Glen Beck!! Or maybe Luis Black!! (Did she mean Lewis Black?)
First, let me say that I'd make a far better dictator than a President so it's probably not a good idea to vote for me although I appreciate the sentiment.
But what she says about this election is what a lot of people on both sides of the aisle are saying. We look at our choices and we shake our heads and say, "Is this the best we can do?"
I was trying to get excited about Fred, but Fred didn't seem to be excited about Fred. Now, I'm holding my nose and supporting Romney.
Unfortunately Kat, I can't give you much of an insight. I cannot tell you because I too have studied the candidates and all of them are lackluster.
Your inclination is to vote for the more liberal candidate, but the top three are really not that exciting. Obama is young and energetic, but he has absolutely no experience. I admire his enthusiasm, but enthusiasm isn't enough. As I've said before, no one would promote a mid-level staffer with no managerial experience to be CEO of General Motors. It boggles the mind.
Hillary is self-serving and in love with the power and the prestige. Even Democrats are now admitting what many of us on the right have known all along – she is fundamentally dishonest. She has been called the Democrats' Nixon. And Edwards – pu-lease. He's a smarmy prima donna ambulance chaser who made his money suing doctors and therefore helping to make healthcare that much more unaffordable to the people in America he aspires to represent.
On the other side of the aisle, it doesn't get a whole lot better. Among them, Mitt seems to be the candidate closer to the way I think and he has a plethora of management experience. My problem with Mitt is that his political convictions seem to be a bit chameleon.
Either way you go, the field is filled with people who don't seem to deserve to be there.
You voted for Mitt in the primary, my best advice at this point in time is to stay with that. He may not be the best we've ever had, but he's the best of this lot.
Uncle VW

I just read that Sheriff Arpaio from Arizona is supporting Romney. He's going to make a lot of Conservatives rethink their position on Romney.

It brakes my heart, but you are right. I'm gonna have to vote for a Republican and then cry all the way home about the fact that I have just betrayed my ideals for the lack of a better candidate! The only thought I have at this time is Michigan's economy. It sucks! Our inflation is sky-rocketing and our unemployment is out of control. Obviously there are other factors involved in my voting but, that is the biggest one at this time. I think Mitt has a lot to offer as far as fixing the national debt and economy goes. Then after four years, I'll vote him out!!!!
