House Panel Postpones Clemens Hearing
WASHINGTON (AP) — Everyone is getting some extra time to prepare for Roger Clemens’ appearance on Capitol Hill. That includes Clemens, of course, along with his teammate, workout partner and friend Andy Pettitte, and their former trainer Brian McNamee. And Congress itself.
The House hearing involving Clemens, Pettitte and McNamee was postponed Wednesday from Jan. 16 until Feb. 13, allowing lawmakers to take depositions from the witnesses, gather other evidence and coordinate their investigation with the Justice Department.
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform was to begin meeting with lawyers for the witnesses Thursday. Clemens’ attorney, Rusty Hardin, said he hopes to meet with committee staffers next week. In addition, McNamee was to meet with federal prosecutors Thursday in New York.
Could somebody PLEASE tell me why the United States Congress is getting involved with Major League Baseball and the possibility of its players (employees) using performance enhancing drugs? Does Congress get involved with the Entertainment Industry (Hollywood) and its known use of illegal drugs? Is Congress getting involved with the possible drug use by factory workers, laborers, farmers, students, cooks, retail clerks, and teachers? How about drug use by Congressional Staffers? You would think Congress doesn’t have anything better to do. My gosh, our country is at war with Terrorists and our borders are is being invaded daily by Illegal Aliens and they’re concerned that Roger Clemens’ may have used a drug that may have well been legal at the time. WHO CARES?
