I despise public restrooms. That doesn't mean that I'm not glad they are available or that I don't use them. Most of us do. We might do so ever so gingerly, but we do, on occasion, use them.
When I must use one and it is one of those times when standing at a urinal isn't what is called for, I expect that my time will be spent locked in a stall, away from the public eye, for the purpose of bodily waste elimination. In less delicate language, if I have to take a dump, I hope the stall door locks tightly.
Apparently, the ACLU thinks you have the right to engage in a sexual liaison with someone in your stall or the one next door.
ST. PAUL, Minn. - In an effort to help Sen. Larry Craig, the American Civil Liberties Union is arguing that people who have sex in public bathrooms have an expectation of privacy.
Craig, of Idaho, is asking the Minnesota Court of Appeals to let him withdraw his guilty plea to disorderly conduct stemming from a bathroom sex sting at the Minneapolis airport.
The ACLU filed a brief Tuesday supporting Craig. It cited a Minnesota Supreme Court ruling 38 years ago that found that people who have sex in closed stalls in public restrooms "have a reasonable expectation of privacy."
That means the state cannot prove Craig was inviting an undercover officer to have sex in public, the ACLU wrote.
If it was me and some twerp started playing footsie with me, I might very well hand him his footsie in pieces. At the very least, I'd do what I could to publicly embarrass the guy. I don't care what the ACLU thinks, or some boneheaded judge for that matter, Public restrooms are no place to have sex and you shouldn't expect that such things would be private.
This is just more insanity from the ACLU. If the ACLU manages to win this one, it will change the whole public restroom paradigm. Can you imagine having to bring your four-year-old to the potty in the airport while two guys have sex?

Even if this comes to pass for Sen. Craig, he's though in the Senate. He may stand a chance in Massachusetts or California but not Idaho.
