Hillary Knows Us

Hillary Clinton is floating the idea of giving everyone born in America some sort of $5000 bond redeemable at 18.

"I like the idea of giving every baby born in America a $5,000 account that will grow over time, so that when that young person turns 18 if they have finished high school they will be able to access it to go to college or maybe they will be able to make that downpayment on their first home," she said.

It's so easy isn't it?  Offer to give away other people's money.  In truth, she is a savvy politician; she knows that people are greedy and always looking for an easy buck.  She knows that the mindset of most Americans is not what they can do for their country, but what can they get out of her treasury.

All the Conservative blogs are excoriating Mrs. Clinton for such audacity, but in truth, she's doing what all politicians try to do in some way or another and that is buy your vote.  Most aren't quite as obvious about it, but it all boils down to the same sauce:  Vote for me and I'll spend your money on you in someway.  Pork is king in DC and we are the ones who placed the crown on its head.

Bush, Clinton, Bush ... Clinton?

WASHINGTON (AP) - Forty percent of Americans have never lived when there wasn't a Bush or a Clinton in the White House. Anyone got a problem with that?

With Hillary Rodham Clinton hoping to tack another four or eight "Clinton" years on to the Bush-Clinton-Bush presidential pattern that already has held sway for two decades, talk of Bush-Clinton fatigue is increasingly cropping up in the national political debate.

The dominance of the two families in U.S. presidential politics is unprecedented. (The closest comparisons are the father-son presidencies of John Adams and John Quincy Adams, whose single terms were separated by eight years, and the presidencies of fifth cousins Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt, whose collective 20 years as president were separated by a quarter-century.)

"We now have a younger generation and middle-age generation who are going to think about national politics through the Bush-Clinton prism," said Princeton University political historian Julian Zelizer, 37, whose first chance to vote for president was 1988, the year the first President Bush was elected. And as for the question of fatigue, Zelizer added: "It's not just that we've heard their names a lot, but we've had a lot of problems with their names."

And now, if Hillary Clinton were to be elected and re-elected, the nation could go 28 years in a row with the same two families governing the country. Add the elder Bush's terms as vice president, and that would be 36 years straight with a Bush or Clinton in the White House.

Already, for 116 million Americans, there has never been a time when there wasn't a Bush or Clinton in the White House, either as president or vice president.

Fast forward a bit and use your imagination now, it’s 2016 and Jeb Bush is approaching ‘elder statesman’ status and he convinces enough people that HE needs a shot at the Oval Office and he gets himself elected, even if just for 1 term we’re looking at a total of 40 years of a Bush or a Clinton in the White House, and just suppose ol’ Jeb gets himself re-elected and serves another 4 years, OK, now we’re up to a total of 44 years that this nation has had either a Clinton or a Bush in the White House, but hold onto your hat’s, I’m not done yet, we’re up to the year 2020 now…

Chelsea Victoria Clinton (born February 27, 1980) will be 40 years old by that time, do you see the possibilities here??

I'm Home!

I made it home yesterday afternoon.  It's a bit colder and wetter but it's home. 

How long I'm able to stay is up for grabs at this point, but, I'll know more when I go back to work on Monday.

In any case, it's good to be back!

At The Airport

I'm here at the Toronto Airport, waiting for my flight.  I have a little more than an hour before it leaves the gate.  We are stopping in Chicago before ultimately landing in Seattle.

I expect the airplane to be crowded.  It's a Boeing 757-200.

I am so ready to be home!!!  I'll be off the computer for a few days.  Mrs. VW has threatened to send me back to Canada if I so much as look at the thing for the first 24 hours!

Homeward Bound

Well folks, my time here in Canada is drawing to a close.  In between all the work, I've managed to meet some of the finest folks on the planet.  Everyone I've met here has been absolutely wonderful.  The Canadians are superb hosts.

While I'm happy to be going home and seeing my sweet wife and family, I'm a bit saddened to leave so many new friends behind. 

It seems that these past two months have both crawled by ever so slowly and flown by ever so quickly.  I'm not sure how that works, but I'm finally at the end of my stay.  Tomorrow morning, I will check out of my hotel arond 6:30 AM EDT.  I'll go to work until about 10 or 11 AM and then head out on the Highway of the Heroes.  The Highway of the Heroes is the part of Highway 401 that runs between here and Toronto.  When a fallen Canadian soldiers is returned, he is flown into Trenton and is taken by hearse to Toronto where his remains are examined and then released to the family and burial.

When I arrive in Toronto, I'll check in at a hotel near the airport.  I'll spend Wednesday night and get up early, turn in my rental car and go to the airport.  My flight leaves around 8 AM EDT and I should arrive at Sea-Tac around noon PDT.  If all goes as planned, I'll be home by about 1:30 - 2:00PM PDT on Thursday.

It has indeed been a long trip, but the good part is that I slept in a clean crisp bed every night.  The room was air conditioned with a coffee maker,a refrigerator and a microwave.  The bathroom is large and I had clean fresh towels every day.  No one took potshots at me as I walked out into the streets and IEDs were not planted along my route to work.

Our servicemen and women in far off places serve willingly and their daily life is, in many cases, fraught with danger.  Even in peacetime, the military is no picnic.  These days, a lot of them sleep where they can find a bit of shade.  They dodge the bullets and the bombs as a matter of routine.  My two months here was nothing compared to a young GI whose pregnant wife waits for his return and hopes their unborn son or daughter will see their Dad.

God Bless them and our Canadian brothers-in-arms.  May they come home as victors, safely and with their heads held high.

It Was Art!

The letters "MIT" usually conjure up images of geeks wearing pocket protecters and thick-lensed birth control glasses.  Sometimes, you hear of some wild and crazy stunts pulled by some of these guys, but they are mostly practical jokes and usually harmless.  When one thinks of MIT, art  and artists are usually not things one associates with that institution. 

Enter one MIT Genius.

An MIT student wearing what turned out to be a fake bomb was arrested at gunpoint Friday at Logan International Airport and later claimed it was artwork and that she was there to meet her boyfriend, officials said.

Just exactly how did this dimbulb (Obviously her parents were joking when the named her "Star"!) think people would react?  She's lucky she didn't get killed!

The trooper, joined by others with submachine guns, confronted her at a traffic island in front of the terminal.

"She was immediately told to stop, to raise her hands and not to make any movement, so we could observe all her movements to see if she was trying to trip any type of device," Pare said. "Had she not followed theprotocol, we might have used deadly force."

She said it was art.  It was almost deadly.  This was not art.  This was some idiots attempt at making some kind of statement.  It could very well have been here last act.

She deserves some jail time.  She fightened a lot of innocent people.  And no, it ain't free speech.  Remember the old rule about yelling fire in a crowded movie theater?  I would assume the same goes for wearinga fake bomb in an airport.

She is an idiot, I don't care what her IQ might be.

7 Days To Go

Just seven days!  Next Thursday is travel day! 

Wednesday, about 10 AM or so, I'll drive to Toronto and spend the night.  I'm thinking hard about doing the CN tower while I'm there.  The cost of the elavator ride is waived if I eat an entree at the 360 Restaurant up at the top.  It'll be pricey, but my meals are covered. 

Thursday is travel day.  I hope to be home by this time next week.

I'm taking that Friday off.  Rumor has it that Mrs. VW will hide my computer until Monday!

Dan Rather Sues VIACOM For 70 Million.

Dan Rather is suing Viacom and CBS for 70 Million big ones.  He was forced out of CBS News in 2004 for running a hit piece on President Bush just before the election. It was calculated to throw the election to John  F'in Kerry and everyone knew it.  Mary Mapes. Rather's Left-Wing nut job producer was fired as well. 

Rather narrated the September 2004 report that claimed President Bush skirted some of his duties during his National Guard service and that a commander felt pressured to sugarcoat Bush's record. He maintains the story was true.

But an independent review for the network determined the story was neither fair nor accurate. CBS fired three news executives and a producer for airing it.

I think Les Moonves should cut him a check made from pure neoprene.  It would be quite appropriate.  It would be just like those documents old Danny had.  Fake, but accurate.
