Apparently some left-wing bloggers think they need a union.
In a move that might make some people scratch their heads, a loosely formed coalition of left-leaning bloggers are trying to band together to form a labor union they hope will help them receive health insurance, conduct collective bargaining or even set professional standards.
I just want to know who they will be receiving these benefits from. Who will they be demanding health insurance from? Collective bargaining? Who will they be bargaining with?
I'm not a big fan of unions. I've been a few and frankly, all they've ever done for me is price me out of my job. Most, if not all, are corrupt to varying degrees. It's the dirty little secret of unions. They are also set up to perpetuate dynasties. Leadership is passed on to proteges from the locals all the way up the chain.
I still don't know who is the target of this collective bargaining. Most of us are free lance and blog at our own expense. If you want to leave a tip or click through an ad, feel free, every little bit helps. Typepad is not free. I pay for the blog and the bandwidth. It's my hobby and if you want to support me in it, hit the tip jar. If not, oh well.
So how does this collective bargaining thing work. If I go on strike, would that matter? I thought so.
I doubt I'll be joining any blogger's union. I can't afford the dues and I doubt it would do me any good. Only some left-wing not-ball could come up with such a loony idea. The left is always looking for some kind of handout.
On the other hand, since I do employ Bobf to help out with the blogging here, I am, in reality, one of them there oppressors! Yikes!!! I better head off an organizing effort!
Memo to Bob:
Effective immediately, you may double your break time. Also, feel free to double your lunch hour. Also, take whatever time off you want.
And one more thing, I'm tripling your pay!
Ain't I generous?

I don't care for unions either. A union members loyalty is to their union, not the one who pays their wages. I believe employment should be an agreement between an employer and employee and I believe it's biblical based.
Matthew 20: 1-15.
For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?

Speaking of time off. In a few days I'll be leaving for the Peoples Socialistic Republic of New York to visit family.

BobF you have got to be the most blatant example of Christian hypocrisy I have seen in a while. Quoting the Bible in one post and denigrating the people of NY with one broad stroke in the next. Unbelievable. You rail about others picking and choosing their morality as it suits them yet you do the same. I shake my head.
