The Amnesty-Immigration Bill. Turning Into Frankenbill Versus The “Mob”!

Ok, this immigration Amnesty bill is really starting to be like Frankenstein's monster. It's got a bunch of dead parts sewn together, some of them rotten or rotting and it seems like it just won't die. I read this article this morning and thought "great, just when I thought it was dead it came back to life".

US President George W. Bush was confident Monday that the most sweeping overhaul of US immigration laws in two decades will ultimately clear Congress once he gets home from his European tour.

Speaking in Bulgaria's capital Sofia, Bush acknowledged disappointment that the legislation — aimed at bringing 12 million illegal immigrants out of the shadows — collapsed Thursday in the Democratic-controlled Congress.

"Listen, the immigration debate is a tough debate. I'm under no illusions about how hard it is," he told a news conference.

"There are people in my (Republican) party that don't want a comprehensive bill. There are people in the Democrat Party that don't seem to want a comprehensive bill."

See, now when we had Graham and Reid crying out there on the floor of the senate, I thought ever so briefly that the monster was dead. However, I've watched enough horror movies to know that things aren't always dead the 1st time around. Like Frankenstein's monster or Jason from Friday the 13th movies it's not dead, oh no it still has some nasty life left in it.
Like Frankenstein's monster it will take the populace to destroy it. Already we've seen some effects that grassroots can have on a monstrosity like this. Look here for an article from the NYT's on the grass roots effort to stop this amnesty monster.

But the legislation sparked a furious rebellion among many Republican and even some Democratic voters, who were linked by the Internet and encouraged by radio talk show hosts. Their outrage and activism surged to full force after Senator Jon Kyl, the Arizona Republican who was an author of the bill, suggested early this week that support for the measure seemed to be growing. The assault on lawmakers in Washington was relentless. In a crucial vote Thursday night, the bill's supporters, including President Bush, fell short by 15 votes. While there is a possibility the legislation could be revived later this year, there was a glow of victory among opponents on Friday.

"Technologically enhanced grass-roots activism is what turned this around, people empowered by the Internet and talk radio," said Colin A. Hanna, president of Let Freedom Ring, a conservative group.

Mr. Hanna suggested the passion and commitment were on the side of the opponents.

We had everything but torches and pitchforks! However, we can't rest on our laurels. The monster of a bill is not yet dead and will be brought back to life. Call it a sequel if you will.
