Big difference here.
Clinton started with a clean slate.
Bush targeted prosecutors who had prosecuted Republicans (like Duke Cunningham) and refused to file trumped up charges against Democrats three weeks before the election. Pete Dominici (R-NM) even applied pressure to keep from having criminal charges filed against him -- after an ethics complaint was filed against him -- and sure enough, the appropriate US attorney lost his job.
This is shaping up as a clear effort to protect Republicans facing prosecution.
That's why we've seen Alberto's chief of staff sent packing. He shouldn't have sent all those emails, outlining the reasons and plan for the firings.
And Bush has to be looking for the Unsend Button on his computer right now.

It was rather well known that Clinton's firings were to get rid a troublesome US Attorney in Little Rock.
From what I understand, Dominici wasn't being investigated. Everything I've read in the media today was that he felt the particular attorney wasn't going after Democrat Voter Fraud hard enough. That was the major complaint with most of them as I understand it. This is another non scandal. A tempest in a teapot.
