Last night, Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco announced she won't be running for re-election. Good. The woman is incompetent. She's as much or more to blame for the Katrina mess as anyone. She failed to implement the state's evacuation plans and immediately afterward tied up federal aid in the form of troops for hours while she played politics. Her "Road Home" program has slowed billions of federal aid to a snail's pace. Recent polls have showed that she is about as popular as a skunk at a garden party.
"I am doing this so we can work without interference from election year politics," she said in a televised appearance from the governor's mansion Tuesday evening.
Which is politico speak for "I don't have a snowball's chance in Hell to be re-elected."
Now, if they can just get rid of that albatross known as Ray Nagin, New Orleans might have a chance.
