I read it too. Reagan was able to do what he did because stood firm. When he stood at the Brandenburg gates and challenged Gorby to Tear down this wall", ir wasn't in the soriginal speech. He did that off the cuff. The Soviets reached out, but he pushed them further and faster than they wanted to go. He is the one that pushed them on nuclear treaties. He is the one that told them "trust, but verify".
Reagan was one of the greatest Presidents in American History and quite possibly the greatest in the 20th century.
We were not afraid to be proud Americans.
Maggie Thatcher was a partner in it, as well as John Paul II.
And what he accomplished also kept you safe in Canada.
Communism and the resultant totalitarian states are evil - every bit as evil , if not more so, than Nazism.

Oh for goodness sakes! No one asked Reagan to keep us safe here in Canada. We were doing just fine without American "protection" thanks.
I'm amazed at how selective you guys are in your memories and your choice of response to my argument. Both of you totally ignored how Reagan's economic policies gutted the nation.
I'm arrogant? That's rich coming from the nation with the most arrogant gov't on earth.
I generally agree with most things on this blog, but when I don't, I vehemently don't. It's not pretty, but there it is. I don't always have to agree, and sometimes people need to know what impact their nation's leaders have on those around them.
If you don't want your gov't policies or leaders to be criticized, then I suggest the American people vote to bring back isolationism.

Huh? I'm thinking you mean Jimmah Carter!
Go look and see how much the economy grew under Reagan. By the time Reagan took office, our economy was almost as bad as the great depression. Canucki, you gotta be kidding. The 80's were boom years!!!!
Interest rates were double digit under Carter and so was unemployment. It was the great malaise!

The 80's were good under Reagan but the 90's were even better because of Ronald Reagan. It takes a long time for economic policies to come into bloom and Reagan's did in the 90's. Bill Clinton decimated what Reagan did and by the end of his administration, the US was in a recession with climbing unemployment. No matter what you think of him, George Bush turned our economy around.
Are you sure Canada didn't want America's protection? During the Cold War, every "free" country wanted America's protection. Canada gave us overfly rights to test Cruise Missiles. That's right, we used to launch and fly Cruise Missiles over Canadian airspace. The US and Canadian armed forces always worked hand-in-hand. Now that the big bad Soviet Union is gone, many people want to beat their chest and say "we didn't need America".
There was a commentary done by Canadian, Gordon Sinclare, and made into a song by another Canadian, Byron McGregor, called "The Americans". You can read what Mr. Sinclare said about the arrogant Americans here: http://www.kfvs12.com/Global/story.asp?S=474891

Jeez Canuckistani, put words into peoples mouth much?
First off my Govt didn't say you were arrogant, I said your POST was arrogant. Why you want to bring in my Govt for my opinion I don't know and it wasn't relevant. Even if your point were relevant why does another government's arrogance absolve you of yours? I see that argument all to often "its okay because someone else did it"
And who asked Canada to remind the world that there are two sides to every story? That's the arrogant statement that set me off, Who made Canada the world leader in fact finding for other nations? Who reminds Canada there are two sides to every story? Thats right Canadians are too good to embellish the truth, thats not just arrogance that being bigoted "I don't embellish the truth because I was born in a fundamentally superior place than those two-timing lying stealing cheating Americans." Yes Canuckistani, that's Arrogance, that you're better than me because we were born a few thousand miles apart. You're not capable of embellishing the truth but I am. Arrogance.
Not only that you do the typical its all America's fault. Its America's fault that YOUR prime minister accepted the FTA even though Canadians didn't want it, no. It's America's fault that RUSSIA is lapsing into communism certainly not Putin's fault, no. If America was lapsing into Communism could we blame Canada or Russia? No. If my govt accepted a treaty with Canadians I didn't want could I blame your Government? No. Does America act of self interest? Yes. Every country acts out of self interest, and though you might not believe it, even Canada.
And Finally there is no credible evidence that President Reagan was suffering from Alzheimers in office. I'd like to know where you got your information. I suppose you just through that in there to degrade a man whose policies you didn't like. That's low. Even the NYTimes looked into it and couldn't find anything.

I'm still entitled to my opinion folks and nothing you can say will change that. Sometimes a differing opinion can be harsh and not what people WANT to hear but there it is nevertheless. I don't have any regrets about what I put on here about Reagan, nor do I feel bad. All of your reprimands are for naught.
Perhaps instead of harkening back to Reagan, you should start contemplating who you want for a Democratic President because we all know the Dems will take the White House in 2008.
Posted by: canuckistani | Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 13:49
Its not about the Whitehouse in '08 its about how you treat other people. Its not a reprimand, its a reminder that not everyone agrees with you. Ultimately its about respect. I asked you to own up to what you said, I asked you to back up what you said. You spat in my face and told me to watch the Whitehouse next year.
Should I be mad?
Should I post another "reprimand"?
Will it matter?
Do you care?
