Suzanne Somers is an idiot. She'd rather her house burn down (which it did) then have a son or daughter serving in Iraq (which she said).
In the wake of a devastating fire that destroyed her Malibu home, Suzanne Somers maintains a positive attitude.
In a statement to TMZ issued by her rep, Suzanne says, "My nature is to look at the glass half full. I don't have a son or daughter in Iraq. I haven't lost a loved one. We will rebuild, and I truly believe we will learn something great from this experience."
My guess is she probably couldn't even find Iraq on a map if it was colored red and Iraq written in big bold black letters.
It's all the same to these people. Most liberals seem to equate service in the armed forces with the worst thing that could happen.
I've had two sons-in-law do tours in Iraq. One was a Blackhawk crewchief and the other drove almost 60,000 miles running convoys. Yeah, I was worried about them. Who wouldn't be? I also had a son that did 4 years in the Marine Corps. He got out before the Iraq thing erupted, but I was just as concerned. At no time did I ever think it was worse than having my house burn down.
Had the unthinkable happened, that would have been tragic. Yes, the loss of a loved one is a tragic thing and would be worse than your house burning down. On the other hand, serving in Iraq is not a death sentence. Tens of thousands have spent tours over there and the vast majority came home OK.
I would also venture to guess that Ms. Somers is about as clueless about today's military as she can be. Shut up Suzanne. Don't open your mouth and prove how stupid you are. Just let us guess.

I think she meant there are people going through harder things than her losing a mansion on the beach and that she should not complain. I don't think she meant it as a knock at service being something bad, but that she has no right to complain, when others are sacrificing more than some stupid house.

No, she didn't mean it as a knock against GIs serving in Iraq, I agree. My point was to primarily point out, as Van Helsing wrote, Somers is a nitwit.

Actually, I was kind of hoping it would be some really rich person's mansion that burned down, and that they would be all upset on camera, crying, wailing, etc. I was disappointed it was only Krissy and she took it so calmly!

She did try to put things in perspective. If you listen to her interviews she is trying to deflect sympathy toward her -- pointing out that people who've lost kids in Iraq have suffered real losses -- instead of just her petty material things. And that her loss of material is nothing compared to the daily concerns of Americans who have children in harms way for a year or more at a time.
