2nd LT Mark Daily died in IED attack on Mosul this week. He was 23 years old.
Back last October 29th, 2LT Daily wrote on his myspace.com site the reasons he joined the Army.
Michelle Malkin has the entire essay posted on her site. Please read it. It is not short, but not one word is wasted. I hope and pray that by reading his words, you can understand just a little why people join the serve.
Lieutenant Daily is representative of the caliber of the young men and women who wear our country's uniform. They believe in something greater than themselves and they believe they are making a difference - and they are. In his essay, you will read these lines:
If you think the only way a person could bring themselves to volunteer for this war is through sheer desperation or blind obedience then consider me the exception (though there are countless like me).
And thank whatever you consider holy that there are!
May God bless his young widow and his father and siblings in their grief.
Goodbye Lieutenant, God rest you and thank you.

May he rest in peace.

Mark J. Daily was our nephew.
Our nephew should STILL be here.
This war should have never taken place.
It is an illegal war for oil - hence Bush's buddy Hunt yesterday claiming the Kurds oil deal. Not to mention the millions of gallons that went unmetered at the beginning of this invasion.
Mark was a good person. I fight to end this war in HIS name because he would want me to fight for what I believe in.
Thank you for reading this.

I'm very sorry for your loss.
Respectfully, I would point out that your nephew was a volunteer and knew full well what he was doing. As to the charge that it is all about oil, I would also respectfully submit that your conclusions are unfounded. Someone making a business deal is not proof unless you can offer some kind of direct quid pro quo.
