Over at the Indepundit, Smash and the family were at the beach near San Diego and they saw a plaque dedicated to veterans.
I read the plaque. "DEDICATED TO ALL VETERANS LIVING OR DEAD WHO HAVE SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND SHARED A PORTION OF THEIR LIVES TO PRESERVE THE HONOR AND INTEGRITY OF THIS GREAT NATION."
Mom is reading over my shoulder. "Do you see that?" I whisper to her. Someone has scrawled out the word "ALL" with a permanent marker, and written in "SCUM."
Sadly, this type of thing doesn't shock any more. It's all so common these days.
As Smash updates:
UPDATE: I notified the VFW chapter in Ocean Beach about the vandalism. The woman on the phone said, "Oh, no! We just had that cleaned!" Apparently, it's an ongoing problem.
I suspect it's teenagers or young adults. Probably the antisocial numbskull types that think their inane graffiti is some kind of testament to their peers of just how antisocial they are.
As common as it has become, it is still disgusting.

Mudkitty,
Typepad was having problems with comments earlier today. Not sure what the reason was. They made mention of it on their status site.

Pfft! That's nothing. This past summer the national war memorial in Ottawa was pissed on by two drunken twentysomething's caught on camera. There was such a furor, the two idiots came forward for their own protection and were charged with the crime of mischief, had to make a public apology to veterans, and face the humiliation of their drunken pictures in all newspapers across the country.
