Brad Pitt is shocked, shocked, I tell you!
BRAD PITT discovered how unpopular America is across the globe when a group of drunk Dutchmen threatened to kill him because of his nationality. Pitt ran into the partygoers while he was in Amsterdam shooting OCEAN'S TWELVE, and the incident shocked him. He says, "I get a bike wherever I go and I went for a midnight ride around Amsterdam. There were some guys coming out of a bar having a good time. I said, 'Excuse me,' and swerved out of the way and they started screaming, 'You f**king American. We'll f**king kill you.' "I'd never come face to face with that before - that turn in the way we are perceived in other countries.
I'm sure that this bunch of drunks didn't recognize Mr. Pitt. They were drunk and speaking from long past experience, drunks don't usually recognize much in the dark, nor are they alway amicable. Booze is known for its propensity to induce bravado and reduce inhibitions. It's not called "liquid courage" for nothing.
The point is not so much that Mr. Pitt ran into some loud mouthed drunks who threatened him, it's that he is probably part of the reason these jolly drunken Dutchmen hate Americans.
The American celebrity is arguably the real face of America overseas. I'm willing to bet that outside the President and possibly the Secretary of State, most people outside the United States (and sadly, maybe even within the United States) don't know one politician from another. I would venture to say that Nancy Pelosi, Bill Frist, Denny Hastert and even Ted Kennedy are not really all that well known overseas. What they do know are our Hollywood stars.
When you have celebrities routinely bashing the government, bashing the administration and bashing our way of of life, this is going to be the result.
No one is saying people don't have a right to their opinion, or to speak their mind. Just realize that there are consequences and you shouldn't be shocked when that hatred you've been espousing turns on you.

Are we sure that the drunken lout coming out of the bar talking trash about America was not Teddy Kennedy? Hmm....

Brad Pitt isn't really much of a political guy though...he's not generally one of the typical Hollywood left who runs his mouth...like Robbins, Penn, Clooney, etc.
