Ward Churchill is anything but boring, I suppose. Maybe as a lecturer, he might be a snoozer, I don’t know, but his antics make him a lightening rod. The picture of him in camouflage, beret, sunglasses and holding what looks to be a submachine gun of some type is the quintessential pose of a Marxist poseur. One wonders if “Che” Churchill even knows how to shoot the damn thing.
He claims to be from a Cherokee band, but they say no, he isn’t. The membership card he so freely flings in your face is an “associate” type of card they gave to a lot of people who wanted one.
He created a stir awhile back by saying the victims of the attack on the twin towers were “little Eichmanns”. A lot of people demanded he be called to account for his outlandish and vile statement, but like the cowards they usually are, the academics closed ranks and gave him “freedom of speech” cover.
Shortly thereafter, some fairly serious charges of plagiarism surfaced that, on the surface, seemed credible. The clique academes in U of Colo. Land were probably not stunned. Aside from being a Marxist poseur, not many people outside of some college girl groupies and stupid anti-authoritarian types give him much attention. Given our boy’s penchant for immediately verbally attacking anyone that might deign to question him, I’m sure that most of his colleagues would have preferred to just let the sleeping dog lie (pun intended) and hope it all blows over.
There was enough of an outcry they decided to appoint a committee to investigate the charges. I’m willing to bet that all they hoped they would find were the couple of instances that were initially exposed.
Instead, what they found troubled them. There was a history of plagiarism, lying and outright fabrications such as the idea that the US Army used germ warfare against the Mandan Tribe killing over 125,000 by introducing small pox laden blankets to the tribe. There was a small pox epidemic that killed 20,000 to 30,000, but every credible historical source points to an accidental infection by traders. In any case, the committee was appalled at what it found.
Of the 5 people on that committee, only one had the huevos to say he should be fired outright. Two others said they could support firing but recommended five years suspension without pay and the other two recommended two years of suspension without pay. Their recommendations go to a standing committee that will look at the allegations, the committee’s report and recommendations and render a sentence that could range from nothing, a hand slap, various periods of suspension, to outright firing.
I doubt they’ll have the balls to fire him, I suspect he’ll get the two years.
I don’t get it. In my job, if I lied about what I did, covered up mistakes and just flat out broke things instead of fixing them, I’d be history. There wouldn’t be any discussion about suspensions or whatever, I would be fired and quite possibly charged with a crime. I work for the government through a contractor. If I falsify government records, that is a crime.
Churchill isn’t even a good Left-Wing whack job. He’s a liar, a thief and a fraud. He deserves to be fired and forced to apologize for being a colossal twit.
