Gambling On A Felony!
On June seventh of this year if you are a Washington State Resident, you could possibly be exposing yourself to a class C felony and a prison term of up to 10 years. All you have to do is log on to the internet, sign into certain sites and transact some business. You would be subject to harsher penalties than most sex offenders. Your crime? Gambling.
You got it. If you log onto your favorite poker site to relax with a few games of Texas Hold’em, you are committing a felony in the State of Washington. You are subject to arrest and imprisonment of not more than ten years. TEN YEARS!
I like to relax and play poker and I am a resident of the People’s Republic of Washington. I play at PokerStars.com and I’ve amassed a small fortune of over 2,000,000. That would be 2 million points, play dollars, whatever. I don’t play for money. I can’t. Not because the state says no, I just can’t stand to part with my hard earned dollars. So I play for fun. No money changes hands. As a matter of fact, if you are a player on Poker Stars, look for Dogg_Zilla. I’m on in the evenings usually, playing on the 100-200 no-limit free tables.
This law is the most wrongheaded of all the whack ideas to come out of the Democrat Controlled state legislature this year. They couldn’t even fund a bill to make your fifth DUI a felony, but by God you can’t play a game of online poker or bet on the Seahawks. Thank god they are keeping us safe from such hardened and violent criminals.
In case you’re wondering, the bill was written by State Senator Margarita Prentice (D – Local Casinos). Senator Prentice gets a lot of money from tribal and local casinos. No corruption here folks, move along. Yes, a bunch of Republicans shamefully co-sponsored and voted for the bill and Governor Gregoire Fraudoire signed it.
One other thing, they tried to get a bill passed toughening up child molestation charges, but the Democrats got it watered down to exclude relatives of the victim. The realives are still committing a crime, but non-related perps get tougher sentences. You might note that most child molestation is done by relatives.
And those drunk drivers? They'll have to go to the casinosand drive home.
At least they won’t be gambling on line.
