WA Democrats Spending Spree

The Democrats in Washington State are spending us into oblivion.  From KOMOTV:

OLYMPIA - Washington's brief respite from budget woes will end abruptly next year, with state budget officials now projecting a $718 million deficit.

And their response?

"No use worrying about it now.”

That’s the comment by House Appropriations Chairwoman Helen Sommers, D-Seattle.

"No use worrying about it now."  How pathetic!

Governor Queen Chris Gregoire and the majority Democrats passed a $1.35 billion supplemental budget that included $520 million in new spending, about $50 million in business tax cuts and a big savings account.

Sommers conceded that lawmakers made it somewhat tougher on themselves by raising the cost of government, but said they also deserve credit for shielding more than $900 million.

Shielded?  That is Democrat speak for money earmarked for things they know will be coming up. That money is as good as gone.

"Compared with the $2.7 billion gap we faced four years ago and the $2.2 billion last time, you could even say we're making progress," (State Budget Chief Victor)  Moore said in an interview.

OK from 2.7 Billion to .72 Billion.  Great, except that is the next budget cycle.  The one after that is projecting a whopping 2.5 Billion dollar deficit.  That’s the Democrats’ definition of progress!

They will either have to cut spending or raise taxes.  They say they can do it this time, but what about the 2.5 Billion looming after that?

Add to that Governor Queen Chris Gregoire’s comments of just two days ago:

The governor said she is working closely with a new commission created by the Legislature to deal with the 600,000 state residents without health insurance and the large number without adequate coverage for the whole family.

Where is she going to get the money?
