That old guy blowin' the tuba is "da man"! It ain't his birthday yet, It ain't some special day. It's just a good day to give the old buffalo a big head.
He'll be 79 this year and still blowin his horn. He's the the father of four (of which I'm the oldest), the grandfather of fourteen and the great grandfather of six with three more on the way. 5 of the 6 are girls and at least two of the expected are girls.
He's an ex-cop, a WWII vet and retired from the city of Pontiac, MI as head of city communications. He's a Past Master of Pontiac Lodge 21 and active with the Detroit Area Shriners playin' his tuba for their brass band. He is a Civil War buff and a history buff (I come by my fascination with history naturally). It was also his small record collection of classical music that introduced me to the greatest of music. He was an electronics engineer (largely self-taught).
But most of all - He's my Dad

happy birthday to your dad!
I just saw mine earlier last week for 2 days, flown in from Yokota. He visited my grandma up in Reno, since he doesn't think she'll have much longer.
My dad and I haven't been around each other much for the past 18 years or so, since my parents moved overseas after his retirement (they'll settle in the states next year) from the Air Force. We had never discussed politics before (I was uninterested then), but I had some good conversations with him, including his time flying missions over Vietnam and friends he lost.

Thanks. His birthday isn't until July. I just did it just because...
Glad to hear you and your Dad are getting back together.
Because I spent 20 years in the AF and I live 2500 miles away, we've started a private family blog where all of us share stories and memories of our lives to pass on tour kids and grand kids I intend to compile it all and publish it in someway for them.
