Abajo Castro!
They are playing the World Baseball Classic in Puerto Rico. ESPN is televising the games and even sends a feed to Cuba. Cuba is a baseball powerhouse and the game is extremely popular in Cuba. Last night in a game with the Netherlands (which Cuba won handily by a score of 11-2) a man sat behind home plate and held up a sign that read “ABAJO CASTRO”. It simply means, “Down with Cuba”.
Then it got interesting (From the AP):
The image of the man holding the sign behind home plate was beamed live Thursday night to millions of TV viewers – including those in Cuba. The top Cuban official at the game at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan rushed to confront the man.
Puerto Rican police quickly intervened and took the Cuban official, Angel Iglesias, vice president of Cuba's National Institute of Sports, to a nearby police station, where they lectured him about free speech.
I would have given my eye teeth to see that lecture!
“Look Angel, this ain’t Cuba. Castro ain’t running the show here and if you want to stay here with your team, you need to learn to live with a bit of criticism. Now go back and play nice”. That would have been my lecture – maybe a little harsher with a few words not quite becoming of an angel for emphasis, but that would have been the gist of my lecture.
This is the regime and the man the Moonbats admire. They have free healthcare and free education! Maybe, but that would most likely be the only things that are free. Castro is a Communist dictator in the mold of Stalin. He is a monster and a tyrant. Had that man done that in Havana, he would most likely be in a prison somewhere being “re-educated”.
I am against the US embargo of Cuba for the most part. I think opening trade and travel will actually hasten the demise of Communism because of our closeness. We really haven’t had much influence with the Chinese. Unlike the Chinese, I think most Cubans would be apt to try to wield a bit more pressure on the regime. I suspect we are waiting for Castro to die. We just don’t want to give him the satisfaction I suppose, and if that’s the case, OK. He won’t live forever. Once he is out of the way, we ought to look at easing our embargo with Cuba to try and bring them into the 21st century and away from the shackles of a Socialist dictatorship.

Now if we could just do the same with bush. You know, teach him about free speech.
We could even do it really really slowly so he might even understand.

My Dear Angellove, you haven't a clue. To you, free speech means silencing people like me. To you, free speech is allowed only when it fits your limited world view.
Clue for ya, Lovey - The free speech movement didn't start in Berserkely in the 60's by some long-haired, livestock infested hippies. It was started 1787 in Philadelphia by a bunch of long-haired old guys.
