I view it much the same way I would someone mocking Christ. I would be offended and I’m not into offending another’s beliefs by doing something that would offend most practitioners. I suppose the difference is I’m not going to go out and burn a flag or threaten to kill anyone.
Much like Tole’s cartoon that offended me and thousands of others, I’m not going to threaten him. I might question his heritage (so to speak), but like it or not, he has a right to his idiotic opinion. I don’t want him censored, nor do I want me censored. Consequently, if I did decide to publish those pictures, It would be my right. This is America; you can make fun of any religious icon you choose. You may choose to mock God himself without fear of earthly retribution. You can denigrate my faith and I have the right to mock yours or lack there of if I so choose. There are a lot of rights in this country, but I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t find that one about not being offended.
There in lies the fundamental difference between secular democracies and theocrats. I might respect a person’s right to his beliefs, but they need to understand that in free and secular nations, they cannot act like 7th century barbarians if someone steps on their toes.
I won’t go out of my way to mock their faith, but if they take it to the streets and cause violence and harm because someone else did, they deserve whatever is coming to them by people defending themselves. If they riot in my town, I’ll be ready.

How can we not offend Muslims when everything we do, everything we believe in, and everything we stand for offends them?

The Muslim world really neds to come to grips with the modern world. Even Europe is reeling at their hypocrisy.
This religeous bullying is getting them nowhere fast and if they want a future for their people they had better come to their senses soon.
I am actually pretty sympathetic towards the muslim world. They are poor people who are being manipulated by a theocracy. They are taught by and large from birth that the US is the Great Satan while the Oil barrons steal away any chance they could have at true modernization and blame the US for everything bad that happens.
One day, the Gravy train (hopefully soon) for the Middle east is going to end and their going to have no one to blame but themselves. They will turn into North Koreas. Nothing to offer the world except promises no to unleash mass destruction in exchange for aid.
In a perfect world, the UN Security Council would do its job and support millitary first strikes against Despots and Theocracies who try and hold the world hostage.
