The arrogant French, for so long, looked down their noses at us. They denounced us as racist as riots burned in LA, Newark and Detroit. In 1966, De Gaulle tossed out NATO and tried to convince Europe to band together under the Western European Union or WEUfor their defense. Since many of the NATO countries figured France botched things and couldn’t even hold back Germany, they figured the US was a better bet to keep the USSR at bay. The WEU was actually formed right after the war, but was greatly overshadowed by NATO. it still exists and is different from the EU, but it isn’t a NATO either.
In the 80’s, when America and others prospered, France was a Socialist quagmire with high unemployment and inflation to the point they were forced to devalue the Franc.
And now, France is burning. Police are now being fired upon and thousands of vehicles have been torched. Chirac is vowing to get tough, but I’m not sure what that means exactly. In France, that very well might mean that the Jihadists win, but the French get to keep there smelly cigarettes and stinkier cheese.

What's sad is that the MSM is reporting that cars get torched every week in France. Just the past few days the numbers are in the thousands not 10s. Unemployment across the board is close to 25%, and 35% for the rioting burbs.
Also, the first death has been reported a man (not governmnet or police) was beaten to death. Well those rioters sure showed them.
