Mama here. Unlike many political blogs I have tried to remain very neutral in the Osama Bin Laden blame game. The Left will smear current President George W. Bush, while the Right will slam former President Bill Clinton. I consider myself to be one of the few in the country who has NOT taken a stand in criticizing either President AND, especially the role/title of the Presidency, as I believe it to be very un-patriotic during a time of war, and frankly, any other time for that matter. If the guy is a screw-up, so be it, but NOT because he's a Democrat or a Republican. I am sick of the shredding of our nation by our people and by our leaders.
That being said, I read the news article, "Clinton, Fox Anchor (Chris Wallace) Battle In Interview". Did any of you out in Cyberland know that Clinton tried to have Osama Bin Laden killed? Huh? When did he ever say that before? News to me. I was just wondering who he gave the order to? Special Forces in our military? The CIA? I believe a law was passed in Congress during the Gerald Ford presidency ending the role of the CIA to make assasin-hits. Did he hire some mercenaries? Where were all of our illustrious congressmen and women in their little committee, behind-closed-doors meetings? Where are the Left harshly criticizing President Clinton for even "thinking" about sending hired assasins?
And, he tried. He really did. He said so in the Chris Wallace interview. He also criticized the current Bush administration for "having 8 months to try, and they did not try." OK, he's right, they had 8 months...but Bill, YOU HAD 8 FRICKIN' YEARS, my friend. Plus, early in the Bush presidency I believe a lot of the FBI, CIA, Pentagon, etc. were holdovers from the Clinton years.
But, but, "I got closer to killing him than anybody's gotten since." Nice grammar, President Clinton. Your side rips President Bush apart for his country boy "hick-isms", but sounds to me like you don't have much room to talk. But enough about proper English...Closer to killing him? Is that like being a little bit pregnant? Either he killed him or obviously, he didn't. Either a woman is pregnant or she is not. (Which reminds me, Gina had her baby Saturday, a beautiful little girl. See? Gina was pregnant, now she is NOT. Get it?)
Clinton then accused Fox reporter, Chris Wallace (isn't he nearing 100 years old by now?) of conspiring to set him up to look bad in the interview. Although I didn't view it that way, if Wallace did, would he be the first journalist to do so? Eventually, Mr. Clinton said exactly what I wanted to hear, "I had responsibility for trying to protect this country. I tried and failed to get bin Laden. I regret it, but I did try, and I did everything I responsibly could." That's right, Bill. And that's the point, here, isn't it? He tried and failed. If Bush doesn't "get his man" by the time his second term is up, he'll be saying the same thing. See, the point is this: I refuse to accord blame on any one president for bin Laden and the Al Qaeda Boys' destruction and evil. Let's blame THEM, shall we? Presidents are only as informed as what their administration, the FBI, the CIA, and the Pentagon tell them. Clinton's advisers, in my humble opinion, were way off base with the terrorism issue (and a lot of other things, but I only have so much time!)
Airing Sunday also was the Tim Russert interview with President Clinton. Bill stated the biggest problem confronting our world today is, "the illusion that our differences matter more than our common humanity." Huh? "illusion"? Who did he morph into, Sean Penn? I am all about commonality. While I embrace the fact that we are all people trying to live good, peaceful, and happy lives, there are a bunch of evil half-wits out there who will do anything to prevent us from these goals. We have so many America-haters in the world and HERE ON OUR OWN SOIL that dreams and illusions and magic have no place in the harsh reality which is ours and that of our children: our way of life, our faiths, our freedoms will be taken from us if we don't get a handle on these terrorist groups. And, while I agree with President Clinton that the extreme poverty the Muslim youths suffer is an incendiary contribution toward their being brainwashed to seek and destroy who and what we are, their justification in murderous, criminal behavior is NOT the fault of the United States of America. I want everyone to go to bed with their stomach full, I want people to be warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I want everyone to have the health care they need, but they won't be getting any of these things without their own societies, their own religious culture, and their own governments doing everything they can to help themselves.
So "man up", President Clinton. You're human, you and your group did what you thought was the right thing. May I suggest that rather than take cheap shots at the current president and administration, you "spread the word" that partisan politics has no room in this fight. United we stand. It's time for the "Elder Statesman" role of support. Do it. Do it NOW.
Mama
amen!
